Do you think ignoring someone completely is sometimes a good idea?

RE: Do you think ignoring someone completely is sometimes a good idea?
By the way, OP, if this is about your father (or some other family member), and you both live together in the same house, do know that if you choose to completely ignore that person and not talk to them at all (not even to say "hi"), you will probably have to deal with a lot of really awkward moments, and if your father is anything like mine, will do whatever sneaky things they can to get you to talk to them again (just so they stop feeling tortured by you ignoring them), such as consulting the whole extended family to have a few sit-downs with you both to discuss how to resolve the tension between you two and make (or, rather, force) some "peace". If you want a real escape from this bind, you're going to have to figure out how you can make yourself independent enough to move out and live a state away from them, or even go overseas. Until/unless you can do that, you are pretty much stuck with having to bear a lot of awkward moments when not only will you not be talking to your father even at times when you're obliged to, but many of your relatives will probably side with him against you and will bear a grudge against you for daring to not tolerate him.

If we're talking about someone you genuinely want nothing yo do with and have no obligation to deal with, of course it's a good idea. Why devote resources to dealing with someone you want nothing to do with?

If we're talking about someone outside that category, it isn't a practical option.

If you're ignoring them as a form of 'punishment,' then no. I think that's passive-aggressive nonsense and is likely to hurt you as much as if not more than the other person. But if someone is legitimately toxic or has shown time and time again that they don't listen to reason, then sure, ignore them.

Some battles aren't worth fighting and some people will never get the picture and should just be ignored.
