He believes that market forces will take their course. Basically assholes lose business, and go out of business... (problem is there's too many bible thumping gay haters in America.) Jordan Petersen also argues that the law can police what you say (hate speech) but can't police what you don't say. Canada has actually passed that exact law concerning how you MUST pronoun the trans community. First time in Western common law history. Free speech is a sticky issue, Iggy. I am one of those poststructuralist commies (like Shapiro fears). Market forces will lead us nowhere (IMO) but to higher sales revenues for certain individuals. My position is: "say what you'd like; the revolution continues." One day (some dreamy day) I'd like to think that we won't let infants starve in third world countries because "hey, capitalism is expedient!" Some day, I'd like to think that we all recognize that we are past that. But that is not today.
VL, we are and always will be a work in progress. I'm just glad I was born (by sheer potluck) in a western country and not some backward theocracy where on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the cranes are displaying woman who had affairs.

I am strongly opposed to illiberal ideologies. One person in this discussion has said that people are free to say whatever they want to say, but they are not free from the consequences of saying it. I've been hearing a lot of that 'consequences' talk lately. Some very illiberal people have decided that they have a right to impose consequences on people for saying things that they don't like. This is really getting out of hand. One of the most interesting and well documented examples of how out of control and hypocritical broken activism has become happened at Yale a couple of years ago.
