This is not a breeder reactor insofar as I have read.

other than selling nuclear technology to a repressive fundamentalist theocracy thats committing a genocide in Yemen and arming extremist jihadists? not much

And how exactly are the Saudis going to use this power plant to wipe out the Yemenis. Electrocute them or hose them with boiling water?
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

It's boiling water that the saudis could really use a nuke for, as an aside.  They consume a significant portion of their fossil fuel production in desalination.

There's no doubt that the regime is shit..but we help shit regimes out all the time. We don't really get to pick and choose the leaders of every country we deal with. There's a strong profit motive, backed up by a legitimate humanitarian concern for the people of the ksa, and..even though this is the (not-so-quiet) quiet part - a strategic interest in containing iran..both economically and militarily - while simultaneously preventing china or russia from providing the same service with a more enticing offer (which they absolutely can and will if we don't).

In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. They plan on using a high temperature reactor which has plutonium 239 as a by-product. They would need to build a separation plant like Iran has/had to separate out the plutonium, though.

every time I look at any international news I always find the US doing some kind of stupid fuckery
hey-sus christo.. WTF is wrong with you morons?

Do you not know history? recent history?

Outside of isreal who else in that region is building 'the bomb?" under the fake news of trying to provide cleaner power for it's country?

Iran. that is who. Now dummies where did Iran get it's nuclear help?

North korea,

The koreans basically built a copy of their facilities for them and iran paid handsomely.. if you remember after israel found out it went again obama and the world and took out this facility. almost started a war?!?! Then iran signed a deal with us to build their bomb on our time table which only cost us 150 billion in frozen seized assets and 1.8 via a trans port plane and pallets and pallets of cash.

Now Saudi says help us build a power plant and you can over watch us every step of the way, or we will turn to russia or orea like iran did have have no oversight.

which of the two evils do you prefer?

Now also riddle me this why do you get your news from commentary? why not source it from the horses mouth and figure shite out yourself? oh, that's right fke news doesn't want you thinking for yourself!

here is rick perry's own words!

Involving ourselves with a country's nuclear program serves the purpose of..wait for it, being involved in their nuclear program.  As opposed to letting noko or china or russia run the circus.

It's a pretty big ask on our end, our private nuclear sector isn't even remotely competitive with russia or chinas state offer. The only reason to get in bed with us is to build the relationship outside of that specific program and to lean on our expertise. All of which comes with a hefty price tag in dollars, politically, and practically.

I suppose that with the dipshits currently running things (into the ground) a particularly short sighted despot might imagine that the bad old good times could last forever.,.....but I think you might have a better understanding of the consequences of inviting us into your house than that. Dirtbag admins come and go.....american presence, OTOH, is stubbornly persistent.

I do not disagree which is why i said this is the lessor of two evils. to me those guys should be running all their power plants on oil which cost nothing to them as the state own all of it technically, but big picture this will all eventually come down to WMDs. Iran will have them sooner or later if not dirty bomb tech and so will saudis. so again do we want them going into the nuclear age owing NKorea china or the ussr a solid/in bed with the same despots who is arming Iran or would it be better if we walk them through having at least some allegiance to us?

There is no good answer here. the problem with this situation though is that the saudis will get there bomb one way or another, and if our partnership is strained at best now, where would we stand when in peace they asked for help even under the fake headline of providing cleaner energy and we said no, but putin said yes?

It costs them 15% of their productive capacity just to desalinate water.  With reactors, they could sell that. Getting high on your own supply is a no-no, whether it's drugs, oil, climate change denial, or trumpist fake news shit.

We had a better deal in place with regards to iran. Your boy blew it up, part of his overriding policy of "dismantle anything the mean black guy ever did".

I kudoed you for your first statement. I read the deal in part with regards to iran. it was shit. we just put them on a time table with no real supervision. we went in with all sorts of restrictions and tie lines, but they would not agree to any of our demands. ultimately kerry folded like a house of cards and gave iran everything they wanted. including 150 billion dollars. Did you know we had to give them 7 months prior notice for any 'surprise inspections" which we wish to conduct?

-and now we don't have to give them any time, because we can't do any inspections, and they actually -are- building weapons.  MAGA MAGA MAGA MAGA!

If you recognize the lesser of two evils in the ksa deal, it's difficult to see how you missed it with iran.
