Alaskan malamute or husky would be the only dog I ever owned for my own sake

Me too, I have 3. I deplore most of the barky, yippee and needy breeds of dogs my wife would want. but if I were to get a dog... see above. I grew up helping breed and raise them and have had one. Most loyal, intelligent and compassionate animal I ever had as part of the family. RIP Smokey.

I like big mutts (and I cannot lie)
We have always had rescue pups that were of mixed heritage. Our doggie is half black lab and half border collie and she is the BEST. <3

Beagles are my favorite. I had one who died at 19 years. got him when he was 8, he was my dad's hunting dog. My dad on their last hunting trip lost him like 30 miles from camp, and two weeks later he showed back up, found his way home. after that my dad figured he didn't needed to be locked up any more and let him kinda have the run of the yard. My wife wanted a puppy and he was just a little smaller than the other dogs and she thought he was one, but I knew he was an older dog thinking if he doesn't work out we only have to put up with him for a few years... we had him 11 years after my dad's 8 years with him.
So many stories and so much love and fun we had. he would always surprise us in the things he did. took him out on a boat and he climbed up on the very end of the bow and sat himself there the whole day just ears flopping in the wind. He would bring you your shoes/shoe in my case as they are almost as big as he was. and he would later work with his son and distract us with a dance or some kind of barking/baying fit and his son would steal off our plates and they would be off to split the bounty.
I want another beagle but my wife still is not over fred.
