My favorite is enteuxis:

Side by Side: for it(food) is(-being) sanctified(purified, separating a class from a class) by(through) means of [the]word(intellect) of God and(-also) prayer(enteuxis). 1 Tim 4:5 NASB

enteuxis is a noun which means: a falling in with, meeting with, an interview, a coming together; to visit, converse or for any other cause. It only occurs twice in the NT and only by Paul and only in 1st Timothy.

In its verb form, it is the prefixed preposition en(in) + tugchanO(hit the mark). tugchanO is the opposite of hamartia(miss the mark, usually translated “sin”). Now, how we came from entugchanO(verb) to enteuxis(noun) to the English word “prayer” is beyond me!

In context, Paul is referring to the gathering together of people (enteuxis) for a special meal(separating a class from a class) of good food, I hope drinks, and poignant conversation concerning the character and nature of God’s word. Sounds like a heavenly party!

Blah, blah, blah.......................

Hope you're enjoying the masturbation.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

Funny! I don't "enjoy" masturbation. I am very susceptible to blue balls and am forced--TMI. Thank God the bible makes absolutely no mention of it. God formed man and did not give him a choice. Why do you masturbate?
My girlfriend thinks I'm a stalker. Well...she's not my girlfriend "yet".

I discovered a new vitamin that fights cancer. I call it ...B9

I also invented a diet pill. It works great but had to quit taking it because of the side effects. Turns out my penis is larger and my hair grew back. And whoa! If you think my hair is nice!

When does size truly matter? When it's TOO big!

I'm currently working on a new pill I call "Destenze". However...now my shoes don't fit.

@the opq.

Because why not. You’ve done all that you can, you’ve run out of ideas. You’re stressed and worried.

Crying out to the heavens can’t hurt, and it at least offers emotional release. A way of sharing what might be your deepest and most private concerns with the wind.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

"..with the wind". I do that all the time sometimes verbalizing. Or, thinking out loud. But, I'm always teaching. I usually teach empty chairs, cats and pineapples. I figured out a long time ago that if I can't teach it, I don't understand it so always went back for more. At least to a point where the information is useful. Your a musician. You understand, you can teach.

When I lived in Indonesia, I taught a Brazilian man to play guitar. Some 12yrs later, he thanked me. Of all the crazy shit we did together and all those amazing waves we surfed, all that adventure and that's what he remembers the most? I had forgotten it. Now it is treasure.

I think that prayers are imprisoning, empowering, selfless, full of hope and many other things depending on the circumstances that they are applied. It's like the worst self hypnosis or the best form of therapy one can give themselves.

It's the application of faith, we all use faith every single day in many different reasons that are outside prayer which can turn into belief. One of these is the placebo effect.

Quote:The Placebo Effect Works Even When You Know It’s A Placebo

For the placebo effect to occur, it’s usually considered that deception is required – tricking the patient into thinking that an inert treatment is actually a powerful drug or similar. It’s this need for trickery that has long meant the deliberate inducement of placebo effects in mainstream medicine is seen as unethical. Nearly ten years ago, however, researchers showed that people with irritable bowel syndrome showed greater improvement after being given a so-called “open placebo” that they were told was completely inert, as compared to receiving no treatment. Presumably some residual belief and expectation of an effect survives being told that the treatment is physically impotent (or there is a condition response to the placebo that does not require positive beliefs). More recent research has since shown benefits of open placebos for many other conditions including back pain and hay fever. Open placebos “bypass at least some of the conventional ethical barriers” to the clinical use of placebos, according to some experts. Others however have highlighted the lack of  suitably robust research in this area, and it’s worth noting there have been some null findings – for instance, open placebos failed to speed up wound healing.

There is no god, so people are talking to themselves, right?

It's just self talk, we all do it, we just don't call it prayer.
For no matter how much I use these dead symbols, to describe symptoms of my existence.
You are your own emphasis.
So I say nothing.

As a Muslim, praying to Allah worked for me many times, and I can't forget how certain prayers got answered exactly for me, it's a kind of response that I would never replace for a belief like the one you are suggesting in the OP.

Well, there is something we should know: Allah -God- is a creator. He is not my maid or servant, or Jinni that I summon to answer my wishes. Thinking about God like that is disastrous, We call him and he responds if he wanted

We need him; not the opposite. When we pray, he listens and answers the way he sees fit, or not answer at all; but he listens. I don't know if he is going to accept my prayers or not; I also don't know if he is going to accept somebody else's.

But prayer do work. Lots of Muslims -and even Christians and Jews who prayed to God- can tell you in full honesty that prayer works. That's why the world is so full of theists
