teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

As long as it's not posthumous.

I know he can rub some people the wrong way, but when you get past the jokes I think most of what he says is pretty on point.

No, what you get when you get past the "jokes" is a deeply offensive and unpleasant man, like your loudly racist uncle unpleasant.

*Shrug* I disagree.

Ricky Gervais is very vocal about his atheism, which I appreciate. As far as offensive... People do understand what comedy is, right?

Not to mention, he's fucking hilarious.

Happy for Gervais, though he's not my cup of tea as a performer.  I was VERY happy when Stephen Fry won it last year.

Not talking about his comedy, if it were just that I'd shrug my shoulders and say "he's in the wrong profession" and then ignore him. It's the vile comments he's made about downs syndrome people, women and lots of others outside of comedy which have turned me into actively hating him.

Are you sure that wasn't part of the comedy?  Just because he doesn't say them on a stage doesn't mean they aren't jokes.  What sort of things do you think Ricky believes about people with downs syndrome and women?
