Weighing the risks of involving biased police against against other potentially risky situation is indeed a part of using extreme caution and discernment when dealing with police.
So, I'm not sure what you're going on about.
I am going on about you should not exaggerate the danger of dealing with even biased police when weighing involving the police to deal with dangerous situations against dealing with dangerous situations without the police.
I'm not exaggerating anything.
I've never advised anyone to not call the police if they fear for lives or safety. Only to use extreme caution and discernment when dealing with them.
Yes...even if they're requesting for assistance. That's where the discernment/judgement comes in.
Requesting police intervention often results in Blacks treated as perps--whether they're the ones who requested help or not. I've seen it happen more times than I can count and have experienced it firsthand myself. If the wrong cops show up, a law-abiding innocent Black person can easily find themselves with their face in pavement or caught up in the legal system wondering how in the hell they got there.
That's something black folks have to take into account when requesting police assistance. It can go South with a mind-boggling swiftness if you're not very, very, very careful. You've got to decide if it's worth it; Especially if the concern or incident at hand could be reasonably addressed through other means.
Anyhow--I stand by the advice in my earlier post.
If you choose to read more into it than what I actually wrote, that's on you.

I second the plan to be cautious when armed individuals may be outside your residence.

And now! Back to America: The Drinking Game
Because between the issue being bound up in everything from long-standing issues like race and class to what having to deal with the worst of humanity on a daily basis (including a disproportionately large number of black people due to long-standing oppression) can do to a heavily-armed man to a Congress that’s so paralyzed by partisanship that they can’t even do their jobs and pass even the most basic legislation, what else can you really even do?

I live in a lower middle class neighborhood, all kinds of people. It's a "wave at your neighbor" kind of town. And most of the things that are raging on the internet are hardly noticeable. A cop lives across the street, he helps the old Filipino couple with their lawn. That kind of thing goes on and on.

Then - clearly - he's not the problem. Nor are other thousands and thousands of other cops. It's a perception thing.

FFS - Athene has more insight into being black in America than most on this board. Athene being a rational and consistent member of this board, I tend to lean toward the attitude that she knows what she's talking about.
Tbh, much of my opinion on police culture in general has been informed through the lens of working with law enforcement as an EMS worker--as I alluded to in my earlier post. The pervasive lack of integrity and unwillingness to self-police as a norm was made very apparent to me.
Thus, I've come to have little to no respect for law enforcement as a system. The most I can muster is to remain neutral in my opinion of individual officers until such time that I have enough information to determine whether they're actually decent human beings or not. I don't automatically assume them to be "good" people.
There's no good reason to--Not when "Getting Home" and "Protecting Our Own" appears to be the premier objective among so many officers as opposed to "Protect and Serve". That's a tremendously dangerous, shitty outlook for people who have other folk's lives and safety in their hands.
I can't respect that.
Your multiple perspectives on the subject make you quite credible as far as I am concerned.
I meant no disrespect.

I didn't think you were being disrespectful in the least, actually.
I was just offering my take on the problems with police culture in general--beside that pesky systemic racism part.
What you said in the post was true. I do know quite a bit about being Black in America.
I've been as much my entire life.
And between you and me, once I reach Level 6 expertise...
