We learn basic history, math, science, and EnglishAnd yet a significant number of Americans are illiterate, and scientific illiteracy makes even those who can read and write make bad decisions (buying the expensive "GMO-free" salt).
And history that's being taught is indoctrination. I mean, for example, children in school are told that Mao solved the problem of hunger in China. He did not, his incompetent policies caused the most horrible famine in human history. Children in school are taught capitalism caused the Great Depression. Virtually no economist today subscribes to that view.

Cecelia Wrote:They cater to the parents, rather than the education of kids.I am not sure what you mean. Parents who want their kids to be better educated make them go to private schools, right?
Cecelia Wrote:They're run by government, and mandated by government, and are entirely pointless without government (after all, if there's nobody to enforce the rules, then rules don't matter!)What makes you think traffic laws do anything to prevent accidents? They are there to supposedly resolve disputes.
Cecelia Wrote:have their numberWhy couldn't they make an agreement with a telecommunication company to have a short number?
Cecelia Wrote:hope they aren't too busyThe same applies to the government.
Cecelia Wrote:don't gouge you on prices because it's a service you need urgentlyWell, that's a necessary evil to prevent people from calling them for help for things that aren't actually urgent.
Cecelia Wrote:Because a currency not backed by a government is worthless. What do you mean? Bitcoin isn't backed up by the government, and it's far from useless.
Cecelia Wrote:Which means that companies can cut corners, and let their employees dieWell, nobody would want to work for such a company.
Cecelia Wrote:You do realize that you're free to go find a private island, and live. Right? No. In fact, I am quite sure this is not the case, since I need to ask the government for a permission to leave the country (my passport, which I currently don't have), and which they can refuse to give me for a variety of reasons.
