You're missing the point. There are quite a few guitarists who manipulate the fretboard better than Hendrix. Clapton, Beck, Santana, Gilmour, Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani. None of them, however, have had the Impact that Hendrix had. I've said it before, quite simply put, there is guitar work before the emergence of Hendrix, and then there is guitar work after. Reid, is in no way, shape, or form, better than Hendrix.

You just made my point for me. Hendrix was CERTAINLY the George Washington of metal. But you said it yourself, after him, came "Clapton, Malmsteen" and I would add even Hetfield. I am NOT taking away his pioneer position, Hendrix deserves it. But just like in any pro sports hall of fame, you have record makers who get beat by future record makers. Joe Montana was considered the GOAT or "Greatest Of All Time" as a quarterback back in the 80s prior to today, which would be Tom Brady. I simply see Reid as a lesser known President after George Washington(Hendrix). And you mentioned Malmsteen. Just so you know, he did an ABBA cover, "Gimme Gimme Gimme."
Hetfield is laughable.
He's good, yes. He's not better than Hendrix.

Here is Malmsteen's cover of ABBA.
While I love ABBA, I love Malmsteen's cover more than the original. I also love Pat Benatar's cover of "I Need A Lover" by John Cougar, and her version of the Beatles "Helter Skelter". Some originals get improved on even if the improvements don't get noticed.
I like Malmsteen. He is an excellent guitar player. As is Vai, Satriani, and Jason Becker, Hendrix though, is the best guitarist the world has ever, or will ever know.

But again, the players after him improved what he started. I stand by my statement the Reid would beat Hendrix in a one one one. |
