Technology doesn't matter.
Fighting a determined guerilla force in their own territory is a good way to lose a war.
Especially if they have the people behind them, through popularity or fear.
The only way to really win is eradication of the population.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Maybe the country can get back to what's really important, poppy production.

To be honest I don't see what's the big deal since I remember news, even before Trump was president, that Talibans are pretty much history and that new enemy is al Qaeda and ISIS.
