By services, are you referring to where you call being locked out of a house living in a prison? Heart Because that makes prisoners of all of us Tongue (not that I don't see where that argument is coming from, but if this is your position it follows that there are freer and less free prison types, which you weren't giving justice to in your arguments).

It doesn't just follow, there are actually freer and less free prisons. Some folks get to go to jail on the weekends to serve their time. Others get shoved into a well and forgotten, so to speak.

Why do people pay for sex Rev, I'm sure there are as many reasons as stars in the sky. I agree that any system of government has problems, what I'm wondering is how yours solves any of these problems, why make the switch? Even the idea of eliminating crimes of necessity, so syndicate A has less than syndicate b...what is syndicate A to do? The system you're describing to me just sounds like tribalism reworded.
Also, if the "problem" of greed can be dealt with by making sure everyone is provided for then why do we have "greedy billionaires"?

Of course free transportation can fit into any system.

as far as rationing, why should i need 300 pumpkins? Why should i need 2 cars when one is sufficient? rationing is not about freedom. Its about what is available at the time. If everyone has an equal share of the pie, then that is what you get. therefore, rationed. In otherwords, you dont get MORE than your share of the pie. that is what I mean by "rationed" as in "ratio" as in "your slice of the pie". Everyone gets the equal amount, rationally speaking, of course.

If you wish to use your rations to pay for sex..then have at it. Dont expect me to make up for your difference.

And yes, in a sense syndicalism is a very basic system of social organization. tribalism? I wouldnt quite use that word, but many anarcho-primitives are moving over to anarcho-syndicalism as they see it more effective than tribalism, but still retaining some of the better qualities of tribalism.

If a neighboring syndicate is having problems, then it really depends on how well syndicate A and B get along together. Both syndacalist societies may, more than likely, come together for the common good. BUT, syndicates dispise centralization, so it means the merger may be shakey. Some syndicates may get into brawls over jurisdiction and code disputes, but nothing near war would happen as there are hardly any laws involved, and profit is typically minimal or non-existant.

How doesn't it follow that there are freer and less free prisons? Didn't you just agree to exactly the opposite?

Sorry, read that backwards.

Like I said, I like the general idea, but then you say things like "nothing near war would happen". I just don't understand why this is the case. I also wouldn't agree that tribalism has any good qualities whatsoever. Is my syndicate free to decide that they would like to be capitalists? facists? etc etc

To outside the syndicate. Tis the most free prison around: locking you out. You can go everywhere else. Just not the syndicate kicking you out.

Dumping your problems on neighbors, again.

and rythm makes another good point.

But how does weekend jail work for murderers and rapists

I keep going back to these two offenses because i find them to be the worst, and that damn near every society will condemn them.

If I may. We have been going off topic a bit... which has been great, and I have enjoyed the discussion greatly! What a challenge trying to answer some of these questions! everyone involved have been wonderful and easy going, thankyou so much for the great answers and questions.

but..if I may....could I make a request?

could we do 2 things on the next few pages of discussion on this thread?

#1 - define a minimalist list of the WORST crimes imaginable.

#2 - define the best way, in your opinion, to deal with them in your current given society. Not an "ideal" society, or what society one would prefer as opposed to what they are living in now. I'm talking about cold hard social reality of where you are right now.

Example: John posts that "Murder, treason, and rape" are the worst crimes imaginable, and that in his current social system he thinks that execution are the best choices for all of them. Then he gives his reasons why he thinks they are the worst crimes and why the punishment fits.

Like I said before, thanks to everyone for participating on this thread. I knew it would be popular, but not THIS popular.

Just sticking with murder and rape, barring execution, I think the system we currently employ is a good one. It's our follow through where I think we don't do a decent enough job. Some people slip through the system, others are imprisoned without sufficient evidence. Some sentences are too harsh and others too lenient, but the system itself has a method of dealing with that in that we can change these things if we so chose.

Murder-Imprisonment for a length of time determined by the context of the crime.
Rape-Imprisonment for a length of time determined by the context of the crime.

We're not just throwing these people in jail to punish them, we're removing them from the people they may do further harm to, namely ourselves.
