The main problem for ammo in a fire safe is corrosion, in my experience. No reason to stockpile, and there really isn't much room inside to begin with, so.

A gun safe as defined is a unit manufactued as such. Not a busted down freezer with a fucking padlock on it.
There is no legal reason to lock up ammunition. No practical reason either. Unless you're worried about it being a small object choking hazard.
And in a confined area LIKE THE INSIDE OF A SAFE - ammo does not simply cook off. It creates an ever faster chain reaction. An explosion.
The lowest temperature of ignition I’ve found for primer (via the interwebz) is 320F. We have a firesafe for documents and such that is rated to keep whatever’s inside the safe at 125F for two hours.
How would cook-off be possible?

There are standards for the ratings, but..ofc, there could always be such a thing as a faulty unit. If my house blows up because of a faulty unit...that's not my problem, legally. Reasonable precautions need only be reasonable, not certain.
Thing is, there's not actually enough ammo in the safe for it to blow up even if it were faulty. So.....meh.

I was asking about fire safes, and you responded with a link about gun safes.
You realize that these are two different things, right?

Lol.
Failed high school.chemistry eh?
I have ammo I reloaded. With mine own little grubby hands. 30 years ago.
It's still bright and shiny and goes boom every time.
Google "hermetically.sealed container".
I have bought and shot .45 ACP and 30-06 ammo that was over 100 years old. No squibs. No hangfires. No FTFs.
Anyone who tells you that ammo had a shelf life does not know how to store ammunition.

And you realize that fire safes made for documents will ruin a gun in a fire?

Bottom line. You want to own guns and not be responsible.
Got it.

In some alternate reality where "not responsible" means safes and locks and cables and securing my firearms in accordance with law, sure. This is getting silly.
I just don't have the problems that other people might have. I don't keep much ammo, I buy it when I want to use it...and, obviously, none of my rifles would fit in my little fire safe, lol. The air in this house is pretty bad though. A gun on a closet shelf will rust in a few months without care. Obviously, given the amount of gun bric a brac I've already bought, if I thought I wanted or needed a better ammo storage locker... I'd buy one.
Jackets last longer than 22, another point for the 17wsm.

Non sequitur. No one is suggesting keeping guns in a firesafe.
But you’ve got me curious. Nudger said that a risk of keeping ammo in a fire safe is corrosion, which will (I assume) ruin it. You objected to that, so why would a fire safe ruin a gun but not ammunition?

Mind you, I don't know that it's an issue for every fire safe, or my model, it might even be the air around here is usually pretty damned wet and I would always notice oxidization on the tips no matter what.
It's just a problem I've had. One problem I haven't had..is kids shooting my guns, or worrying about dcf.
