The simple answer? Reparations. $350,000 would solve the majority of those issues, wouldn't it?

Short answer; no.

Is it just me does what's his name have the sensitivity of a comatose chicken?

The name "Huggy Bear' reminds me of a plonker in an old cop show who looked like a pimp.

Yes, 350k would work. As everyone knows, money is like kryptonite to hatred.

The only thing I imagine that a racist homophobe would hate more than a trans Black person is a trans Black person who just got $350 000 from the government.

The issues LFC listed were economic, and had nothing to do with sexual orientation, but with the history of racist policies designed to keep black people on the bottom of the economic ladder. In the US white people own 85% of the wealth as compared to the 4% black people own, despite being here since before this nation was founded, while the Majority of white people were immigrants.

It is estimated that slavery generated as high as 50 trillion dollars.

White immigrants came here and took advantage of a policy called the Homestead Act, which allocated 246 million acres of land to 1.5 million white families, which value amounts to 1 million dollars per family by today's standard,.

The G.I. bill introduced low cost home loans for ww2 veterans (except the black ones), owning a home is the quickest way to build wealth.

Now to LFC's points
  • Black transgender people had an extremely high unemployment rate at 26 percent, two times the rate of the overall transgender sample and four times the rate of the general population.
  • A startling 41 percent of Black respondents said they had experienced homelessness at some point in their lives, more than five times the rate of the general U.S. population.
  • Black transgender people lived in extreme poverty with 34 percent reporting a household income of less than $10,000 per year.
  • Black transgender people were affected by HIV in devastating numbers.
All of those are economic problems with the exception of Maybe HIV, and even then, you'd have a better quality of life if you had money.

$350,000 invested in one of the top mutual funds with a reasonable return of 15% nets you $52,000 per year, which would solve 3 out of 4 problems on that list.

Weren't you quoting MLK a few pages back? Apparently you seem to respect his point of view.

How about this quote.

I’ve no doubt that reparations would solve economic issues and are, on balance, a phenomenally good idea. But what you were asked was

Quote:Since allegedly, you’re so concerned with the well-being of the black LBGTQ community, I’d like to hear some ideas from you about how we can combat the devastating issue of discrimination, oppression and violence against trans people of color (black trans women in particular) rampant in this country right now.

Money does not solve ‘…discrimination, oppression, and violence against trans people of color…’. It didn’t protect prosperous Black people in your country from having entire communities destroyed, so I can’t see how it would keep Black trans women from being murdered. In fact - if history is any indication - it would exacerbate it.

The gi bill is a great example, both for it's historic effect and the circumstances of it's implementation as a fundamentally racist scheme. I can think of other programs from the fsa, sba, and dept of ed. Similar in all respects. Each is shown to more quickly and competently close the wealth gap than cash disbursement, but none have been equally applied at any point in their existence. Cash disbursements also have observable effects. The pro is that they're pretty much the best thing to lift people out of poverty, the con is that they show diminishing returns beyond that. More-so when we consider the structures in place which funnel any amount of money, very quickly, out of targeted communities.

At the end of the day, racists will fight any proposal that anyone can conceive of - the only leverage being a conflicting urge to economic populism. It's become broadly true of the contemporary gop that the only way to have nice things is to bribe them. Lobbyist, legislator, private citizen...doesn't matter. A bribe is always the answer.

I have no problem with reparations. Resources are essential. But how can we specifically target the hatred and violence against black trans women that is considered a “pandemic” in America right now? I’m thinking a good first step would be clear, public messaging that trans women are women, and a sharp and passionate rebuking of anyone, especially wildly popular celebrities with expansive platforms, who insinuate or explicitly assert otherwise. If we aren’t actively fighting against harmful, false narratives about trans folks, like that they’re sick and that they need to be fixed or that they’re just “confused,” then we’re not helping trans people.

I think I, a white woman, care more about the black trans community than you do, Hugz. Now, go ahead and die mad about it.
