The ground of being isn't vague. That's one hell of a claim.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The variable that changed across participants was the word used to describe the accident. We asked how fast the cars were going when they "hit, "collided," "smashed," etc. The results were simple. People's estimates of the speed correlated with the intensity of the word.
To think you are not altering the accuracy of an idea by framing it with the least charitable words (e.g. magic) is to grossly misunderstand how the mind works.
Your going to have to deal with the negative baggage that your religion has created. If you can't, then maybe it's time for you to change.

Earlier, we were told that the baggage was our problem. I'm interested...is it inconceivable to our resident christians that any person could have any problem with their god which doesn't reduce to a personal problem?

They don't mind if atheists don't believe, as long as we do it in a way that they approve so that their entitlement is not challenged.
Not playing nice will probably be viewed as another form of christian persecution.

Most of Christians believe in personal God, that God lives in heaven, that you can record sounds of hell if you go deep underground, and also they believe in exorcism. Why do you think Vatican trains exorcists if they are so sophisticated there in Peter's palace? Perhaps to "heal" people from metaphorical devils?
I agree most Christians believe in a personal God; however,
saying that most Christians believe you can hear sounds of hell if you dig far enough down is a stretch. Perhaps a more appropriate approach to Christianity is on a denomination by denomination basis.

All the more reason to not to take religion seriously

Would you like to tell us your denomination? My guess is SDA.
(maybe you've said before and I've forgotten, if so....... my apologies)
