According to this documentary, Scientologists are trying to play Hannibal Lecter, in that if you criticize them in public they send people who then talk you into killing yourself. Like they approach you in public and whisper in your ear: "Kill yourself." Or rent an apartment in your building and become a friendly neighbor who just happens to tell you to jump off the roof.

I recently watched a couple episodes from the docuseries by Leah Remini about Scientology and just couldn't watch any more.  There were several interviews with people who were either born into it or were in it for a long time and the stuff they talked about was just so damn bizarre.  

I get that most religions are bizarre but this is some seriously whacked out stuff.  The way people were/are treated, the money they put into it, and the things they believe are impossible for me to comprehend.  I enjoy learning about cults but this one is just too much.

It's kinda insane;  the more you look at it, just calling it a cult seems inadequate, since it's also a combination of the ravings of a madman, a Ponzi Scheme that charges you 150k to tell you we're all just cavemen with dozens of alien ghosts fighting over us at any given moment, and the power trip of a dwarf with all the even-headedness, imagination, and ruthlessness of The Trunchbull, and this chimera is so fucking powerful it can engage in legal guerrilla warfare with the U.S. Government and win. And the fact that hundreds of celebrities get taken in by it just makes it all the more jaw-dropping.

Don't Scientologists see Christianity as something that evil Xenu implanted in people as an illusion to drive them away from the "awakening" that Scientology offers? So wouldn't Erika Christensen's starring in a Christian propaganda movie be equal to a catholic actress starring in a movie that praises Satan?

I don't know how far she's gone up The Bridge, but if she's one of the 90% who haven't reached OT3, she likely doesn't know better (bear in mind, the Co$ insists that converts must learn about their new doctrine only at the speed they're willing to spoon-feed it to them, a term they call Gradient) and the higher-ups won't punish her for it, or if she has, they're probably okay with allowing it because it reinforces the claim that Scientology is compatible with all other religions.

Or maybe, since she hasn't done much since, she's currently stuck in The Hole for violating Miscaviage's whims.

It seems that all I had to do was to Google my question because other people were asking this, and Tony Ortega gave an answer a few years ago when the movie came out, and it seems that my hunch how "money is more important than Scientology integrity" was on the right track, because she already passed OT3:

The church will be thrilled that Christensen is earning a paycheck, and it wouldn’t dare tell her not to appear in such a film. Meanwhile, as she has many times before, Christensen herself will say that generally, Scientologists can also be Christians or Jews or Muslims.

This. Is. A. Lie.

But lying is practically a sacrament in Scientology, so Erika won’t be in any trouble for it. [And lying isn't a sacrament in Christianity? Has he watched "Case for Christ" like when they say to the audience how all Jesus' apostles died for him - that was a big fat lie.]

Los Angeles County Superior Country Judge Charlaine Olmedo determined Masterson would stand trial after the fourth day of a preliminary hearing that included testimonies from the three women who say that Masterson raped them in 2001 and 2003.

The judge said she found the women's explanations credible that church teachings kept them from reporting their accusations to police for years.

Having been a recovering Catholic for over 50 years, I've never quite understood the fuss about Scientology. Ok, they're manipulative, and aggressive and believe in weird shit Ron Hubbard made up as he went along .

Honestly can't see how Scientology is any more mendacious and loopy than any of the Abrahamic religions. I won't even start on Hinduism. Scientology is very young. Give it 1000 years or so.

So far Scientology has been banned or refused tax free status in a goodly number of countries.

I really don't care about scientologists unless they get in my face. Then I tend to say some very unkind things. My wish is that all religions lose their tax exempt status and are not allowed to own property. I won't hold my breath

How is it any more mendacious? Well, putting major parts of the doctrine behind a paywall of a minimum of $159,160 is a good place to start. Yes, that's how much money it costs to get to the Xenu story, and that's only if the Church doesn't decide you need to repeat a course of auditing. When the RCC puts the first couple chapters of Genesis behind a paywall that costs as much as a small house, or, for that matter, when the Pope decides to consign the College of Cardinals to an ant-infested double wide at the back of St. Peter's Cathedral, then you can say it's no more mendacious or loopy, but not before.

More than a month ago there was the 25th anniversary of the renaming of North Berendo Street in Los Angeles to “L. Ron Hubbard Way.”

But only this week letters sent by members of the public to the city council were uncovered for the first time in which Scientologists encouraged them to rename the street.
