Actually, the perp had six guns in his car. The one AR-15 was just what the cop was able to see at first glance. Here's what the actual court order said about what was found in the vehicle:

Through the windows, KPD officers observed an AR-15 style rifle, a box for a Taurus .380 handgun, a cannister of the explosive material Tannerite, and a box of 5.56 caliber ammunition. The bank manager requested that KPD tow the van. An inventory search was conducted on the vehicle. The search revealed, in addition to the items seen through the windows, approximately $509,000 of U.S. currency (believed to be Defendant’s inheritance), books (about survival, bomb making, improvised weapons and Islam), drawings of swastikas and planes crashing into buildings, and the following firearms: a Sig Sauer AR rifle, an Intratec 9mm Luger, a Lower AR receiver, a Kel-Tec Sub-2000, a .22 caliber rifle marked ArchAngel, and a Russian Mosin Nagant M91/30 bolt action rifle.

But, hey, who doesn't go to the bank with half a dozen guns in their car, books about terrorism, and explosives in their car?

That said, the guns are actually a bit more important to the story than it seems, if only because his Ford van was Probable Cause on Wheels. That's literally how the cops set this whole thing into motion: someone reported an abandoned car, the cops took one look inside and decided to tow the van.

Actually, if I’m reading the report accurately, he had two AR-15s, one no-name that was in plain sight, and the Sig Sauer that they found after they towed the car. Also, they found two more pistols, a Luger 9mm and a Taurus 380 in his other car (along with multiple fake IDs.)

And, of course, you’re continuing to gun for this guy because... you like that he carried guns? Or because you’re terrified that this chucklehead is somehow going to accomplish what thousands of mass shootings in the last decade (and over a hundred within my own lifetime that actually fit the definition of mass murder) have so far failed to do?

I still fail to see why anyone needs that kind of weapon unless they are serving in the military. I get that people want one. At one point I dreamed of having a WW2 Corsair as a teen. I knew I would never have the money to buy one, but even if I did, I damned sure wouldn't need a fully armed one with real ammo. I figure if you cant hit your target with a shotgun, or hunting rifle, or 6 bullet revolver, odds are certainly sure that you have no fucking business with that kind of power.

Nobody needs that kind of weapon, or drum magazines or high capacity banana clips. If one wants to have fun shooting at people paintball isn't deadly. Hurts like hell, but not deadly. 

Port Arthur had one massacre and Australia pulled it's head out of its ass, and put their foot down. Tons of citizens put public safety above their own personal desires and turned in their weapons. New Zealand had that Mosque massacre, and they did the same thing. Now guns are still sold in both countries, that hasn't stopped. But what they don't have that America unfortunately still has, is an unhealthy worship of firearms.

Gun owners without criminal records here, on the far right, are willing to sacrifice public safety for their own personal self entitlement born out of fear.

You are going to keep on and I am going gun shopping.  I haven't had my own in quite a few years.  Where do I sign the form that says it's for "entitlement born out of fear"?
