Merged Winter's 'Attack On The Capitol Thread' into this one.

And despite Trump's bullshit rhetoric which incited needless violence and 4 deaths, VP Pence did his job and certified Biden as the winner with the EC numbers we've known since November.

Pence didn't certify anything. Congress did the certifying, Pence merely presided over the proceedings and announced the result. Prior to the kerfuffle, Pence was very, very clear that he didn't have the authority to certify the election results.

Sedition, riots, protests, storming the Capitol in Washington has nothing to do with "war on terror"

'I have said that any man who attempted by force or unparliamentary disorder to obstruct or interfere with the lawful count of the electoral vote should be lashed to the muzzle of a twelve-pounder gun and fired out of a window of the Capitol. I would manure the hills of Arlington with fragments of his body, were he a Senator or a chief magistrate of my native state! It is my duty to suppress insurrection--my duty!' - -General Winfield Scott, Commanding General of the US Army, 1861

It was repeated often that Pence's roll in certifying the vote is ceremonial.  He did the only thing he could do per the constitution.

Who's angling for an adult in the room medal this time? I just can't wait for all the "You're welcome" rehab tours from the likes of stephen miller, for example. By the end of this, no one will admit to having ever supported any of it.

I know that. But considering how many sycophants Trump has surrounding him, I was worried that Pence might go outside his job description. I am glad I glad I was worried for nothing.

The data says otherwise.  Blacks are overwhelmingly more likely to be targeted by police and treated with violence during an encounter.  There are police policies actually dictating how police are to harass black people in some cities.  The police officers themselves may not be outright racists, but their department policies certainly are.  And make no mistake, if that crowd at the capitol had been a BLM protest, there would be dead bodies all over the place.  I witnessed the police launch tear gas at a local BLM protest that was 100% peaceful.  Why did they do it, you ask?  Because the demonstration was "scheduled" to go from 4 - 6 PM.  At 6:05, a lot of the protesters were still lingering around, so tear gas was launched to "keep the peace".  So there is most definitely a double standard.

That was just Lawz missing the pulse, is all. A variation on the theme of "Guys not a racism monster, how can this be a racism issue?"

Anywho, plenty of those cops are likely to have shared the insurrectionists delusion and the word from on high was not to drop the hammer on them. Talk about a half hearted response. Mittens is calling it what it was, and our allies are condemning the presidents attempted coup.

The only thing that saved democracy was the great mans incompetence. He expected more people, and not for the first time..and if he hadn't given those people the plague and destroyed their finances then he would have had them. We're probably looking at a stay of execution more than deliverance, at this point.

So many shoes this morning. Turns out that the final order to send in the guard didn't have trumps name on it. Pence gave it. Deep stated yet again.

Good ole bootstrap Amurikan.  I wonder how this guy would feel if someone broke into his place of business (Ye ole gun shop) and stomped on his counter.  Methinks he would unload his trusty Glock 9 on 'em for general principle.

This is the scary part.  Trump, for all his hot air, is mostly just that, hot air.  His buffoonery is all that kept him from being successful in his attempt at retaining power.  The next Trump will likely be more savvy, more experienced, more cunning and a lot smarter.  2024 will not be fun for anyone who despises Trump.
