Your title's a little off. The case is about the right to carry concealed weapons outside the home.

I also did not specify that it does not apply to fully automatic weapons or rifles....

But then why would I?

If you' re interested you' ll figure out the details....

It’s not a trivial point. The notion that you’re allowed to walk about with a visible pistol in a hip holster seems to be taken as read.

Why do you think the concealed/open carry distinction us important?

Because if people have the right to carry firearms, other people have the right to know who’s carrying. It’s a public safety issue.

No. It is not.

You don' t have the right to know if your neighbor has life insurance. Or HIV or TB.

Nor do you have the right to know who is carrying a firearm

Actually, I DO have the right to know if my neighbour has tuberculosis - it’s public information here. I have no right to know if they have life insurance or HIV, because these don’t post a risk to me.

People who carry guns are inherently more of a risk than people who don’t. If everyone carried their guns openly, people might be a bit more polite in the public square.

Be the laws there - what they are - have no bearing on what they are here in the US.

Personally - I see no merit in open carry.

I tend to think people are more polite when they DON' T know who is packing.

Edit to add

What do you base the statement - that those who carry are a greater risk? Are you including or excluding those who carry illegally?

Either/or. I base it on the assumption that I’m somewhat less likely to be shot by a person who doesn’t have a gun than by one who does.
