I do not tell atheists what they think about gods. I have mentioned that most (nearly all) people who use "atheist" as a descriptor..."believe" there are no gods or "believe" it is more likely that there are no gods than that there is at least one.

I enjoy Internet discussions.

Try to get a life that works, Lady. Stop allowing me to upset you so.

I am not trolling. I am merely responding to folks like you who ask me questions.

Thank you for sharing what you think. I was beginning to think you are unable to think.

Shouldn’t you be golfing?
Actually, Lady, I do not golf on week-ends or holidays. I play free because I work as a starter one or two days a week. They prefer employees not to play early on week-ends or holidays...and the only time I play is first out. (7:00 on week-days) My group is fast...3 1/2 hour rounds tops. We do not like to be stuck behind people who take over 4 hours...so we work out to go first slot.

I'm enjoying myself here. I wish you could get over whatever it happening with you concerning me. No reason why we cannot be civil with each other.

AND...I know how this will almost certainly play out. You are an aministrator...and you have the power to give me the heave-ho...or heavily influence me getting the heave-ho. (Which is it, by the way?)

I suspect you will find a reason to chuck me out.

Okay. You'll never hear me say a bad word about you or the forum when it happens. Just a case of  "unreconcilable differences."

Just made some salsa for a get-together with in-laws this afternoon. Stuff is dynamite. Wish you could taste some of it.

Thank you for your guesses...and the way you are presenting them. You are being of more help than you can imagine.

Frank Apisa, I have to admit it to you: I believe there are no gods.

There, I said it. I can't prove that my belief is true and I freely admit that I may be wrong. I will change my belief if I'm shown to be wrong. However, based on what I know about the creativity of the human mind and the complete lack of evidence or strong arguments to support claims about gods, I can't help but "believe" that all gods were invented and do not exist. I don't know this and I can't prove it but I do believe it. I just have a hunch that if gods were real somebody would have come up with some evidence or at least a really good argument for them by now. After all, we have discovered three billion-year-old fossils and identified galaxies far beyond our own. Surely we would have found some trace of gods by now if any were there. But we haven't so, reluctantly, I find myself believing in their nonexistence. This silly little belief is not my religion, however. I have none.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Atheism, FM, is most definitely NOT a religion. I see some people proposing that...and I think they are jerks.

But many (not all) atheists claim they are non-believers.

Well, as you mentioned...you are NOT a non-believer. You simply "believe" differently from the people who are called "believers" by atheists. The "believe there is at least one god." You "believe" there are none. They "believe" at least one god exists (the one they worship)...and you "believe" they are nonexistent.

I think the reason you call yourself an atheist is because of those "beliefs" of yours. I don't think you call yourself an atheist because some dictionaries require it of you.

Thanks for your response, FM.

Ridiculous semantic game aside, why does the word "atheist" bother you so much?

It doesn't bother me. I do not want the word atheist applied to me as a descriptor, because I am not an atheist.

The word "Christian" does not bother me, but I do not want anyone to call me a Christian, because I am not a Christian.

I do not want the word "liberal" applied to me...because I am not a "liberal." (I definitely am not a conservative either, so I do not want that word applied to me.)

Quote:That's a fascinating belief.

The dictionary shows that you're wrong, but you believe otherwise.

Atheists have told you that you're wrong about what they believe, but you believe otherwise.

And yes, you believe. You hold something to be true in spite of a lack of evidence and/or evidence to the contrary.

You keep arguing that your beliefs about atheism are right when atheists have told you their wrong. Little wonder you're being told to pound sand.

1)  It is not a belief. It is an opinion.

Changing the word doesn't change the underlying reality. A baseless opinion is a belief. Your opinion about you being right is baseless.

Quote:2)  There is no such thing as "the dictionary." There are dictionaries. And some say that I am correct.

You mean the ones from 70 years ago? Amazing what you can demonstrate when you cherry pick your definitions.

Quote:3)  Most atheists do not tell me that I am wrong about what they "believe"...they try to sell the bullshit that they do not do "believing." Glad we both realize they are bull of shit.

See, this is you telling others what they think.

Quote:4)  I do not do believing. I do not hold anything to be true despite a lack of evidence.

Congratulations on being the only person living to never have been wrong. What a silly, close-minded belief.

What is there to explain?

If someone says "There are no gods"...he is making a blind guess. If he says, "I 'believe' there are no gods" he is still making a blind guess...but disguising the fact that he is doing so by calling it a "belief."

I do not believe in any god/s. How is that a guess?

On planet sausage?
