1. Manatees. Gentle, vulnerable, and cute.
2. Meerkats. Personality in spades.
3. Those guardians that walk backward through time in Dan Simmons' Hyperion novels. It's just such an evocative image.

Well, if we’re gonna go with boring old ‘real’ animals, then it’s:
1. Kakapo, the world’s only flightless parrot.
2. Elephant (nuff said).
3. Leopard slug, because I don’t feel they get the recognition they deserve.
4. Hammerhead shark - it’s a fish AND a tool!
5. Gorilla, because I’m afraid that if I don’t include them, they’ll find out.

Definite kudos for Manatees. My personal experience is with the Florida Manatee. Such an inoffensive creature. They are so docile, a mother will allow interaction with her baby. They just chill out in Florida Bay and eat sea grass. They do cut one hell of a mean fart. It's to be expected that when a 1200 pound animal cuts one, it's not going to be pretty. Aside from that though, I can't think of any life form that is so inoffensive. Despite their large size, they live their lives without imposing on any other creature.
If there was a universe where a benevolent god created life, such life would all resemble Manatees.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

1. Cats - because if I don't include them mine will kill me in my sleep.
2. Chickens - for being so versatile everything tastes like them.
3. Unicorns - because it's a rainbow farting gay horse with a dildo on its head.
4. Self regenerating atomic budgies - because, like mythologies before me, I can make up insane animals, too.
5. Dragons -because, to paraphrase Boru, they're fucking dragons!
6. Ex-parrots - because Monty Python skit.
7. Vorpal bunnies -because that rabbit is dynamite.

1. Dogs and Cats (I genuinely can't decide; I love them both equally)
2. Spiders/Tarantulas
3. Wasps
4. Octopuses
5. Rabbits
I have a fear of and get uncomfortable about these animals:
• Apes
• Horses
• Pigs
• Greenland shark (other sharks are cool but these zombie freaks have me unsettled)

3. Eagles. They live where I want to live. They're dead-eyed. Sexes have the same markings. Juveniles or unmated adults help feed and watch the nest.
2. Black Bears. They let me pass through their territory without killing me.
1. Zonkeys. I was driving home a different way one evening and looked at some animals in a field. "Is that a donkey with zebra stripes? Am I tripping?" Now I'm obsessed with it.
