My answer to my son: "HELL NO!"
He walked home 12 miles at 3AM, then slept on the porch.

How long do you suppose it will be - before we see the first porno film that is filmed inside a moving, self driving car?
Bonus points - how long after that will it be before somebody gets arrested for doing it? Because face it - if the cops can pull you over for an air freshener hanging from the the rear view mirror because it' s a distraction - they dammed well will pull you over for having a menage a trois in the back seat...

I read that article to see if any more information was available. It seems unlikely that autopilot was engaged -- only adaptive cruise control, which disengages if the seatbelt is unbuckled. Therefore, there was a driver in the vehicle. Likely the driver unbuckled and moved around to try to exit the vehicle after the crash.
That makes more sense than "killer autopilot quickly gets up to killing speed in a residential neighborhood and crashes into a tree".
Likely the driver was trying to show off how quickly the car could accelerate up to a high speed, and lost control.
He was definitely using autopilot. In fact, it's even right there in the title of this particular article. There are many ways to fool the Tesla autopilot system to make it think there's somebody in the driver's seat.
