That is clay.

Neither the Torah (from which a lot of the Quran was lifted) nor the Quran are history  or science books.  They are religious texts, written by men for men .

This atheist rejects the concept of  revelation or dictation from a deity.  Because I don't believe in god(s), I'm also unable to believe he inspired or dictated anything. What with probably not existing.

Fashioning Adam is evolution? Hardly.  In that context, fashioning is usually taken to mean 'create' as far as I'm aware.. Of course, it's fine for you to find your own interpretations. As long as you're aware  I for one will call you out. Especially when you make a claim as fatuous as fashioning Adam means evolution. Cool

Look at my registration date. I know this forum before you.

No, fashioning literally means:

Quote:fashion
/ˈfaʃ(ə)n/

verb
gerund or present participlefashioning

  1. make into a particular form.
"the bottles were fashioned from green glass"
    • use materials to produce (something).
"the skins were fashioned into boots and shoes"
  2. Oxford Languages

So, God made certain materials into "a particular form" then breathed the soul into it.
Making the materials into "Adam" can take billions of years.

i.e the materials need to "evolve" until they reach the form of "Adam", then the soul would be breathed unto the being.

Picture it with me. Monkeys were the step before Adam. Gorillas too. Isn't that evolution; literally ?
Monkeys evolving into Homosapians ?and when the Homosapians came into being; God's soul was breathed into them.

As has been mentioned before, what God is described doing is called ‘abiogenesis’ - the emergence of life from non-living matter. Evolution, on the other hand, is the cumulative changes in groups of organisms over time.

Nope. That is a comet. Clay is a different thing.

So you have been wrong for a long time. Do you think that is impressive?

So what? Is English God's language?

Bollocks.

Monkey's did not "evolve" into humans. That you think so just tells me that you do not understand evolution at all.

That's the part that amuses me. Everyone, absolutely everyone, accepts abiogenesis of some kind.

Reasonable people see that chemistry is now and always has been the explanation for life. Nuts think a fairy played in the mud according to their magic books.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. Already answered by Nudger - it’s a little thing called chemistry.

Yes, populations of organisms evolve over time, which is why God fashioning Adam out of  clay is not evolution.

Yeah, as has been said, evolution doesn't pretend to explain abiogenesis. It only describes the processes affecting how generations of organisms change over time. Abiogenesis remains a mystery. And just like any other mystery, it is prudent to dismiss god of the gaps hypotheses.

Also, as an on-topic aside, this video is awesome for anyone with an hour to spare.

RE: Theists: What is your stance on evolution?
We know, for a fact, that chemistry describes the processes by which life and organisms happen. That's not an open question and the answer remains precisely the same no matter what causal agents we invoke to explain these observed circumstances.

Magic books all got it wrong, and ofc they would, and there's no salvaging that. Anyone who insists that some demonstrably false thing must be true for their god to exist is offering a proof of nonexistence by negation. It's fun.

I am a believer in the Big Bang and in evolution. Maybe this question has been asked (many times?) before, but I am new. I have watched tons and tons of TV shows and YouTube videos on evolution and read many books. It is accepted as fact by many (most) scientists. What do you believe with regards to evolution? Do you believe that modern humans have only been on the planet for a few thousand years? That all animals on the earth have only been here a few thousand years? What about dinosaurs? Do you believe that the Earth has only been here a few thousand years? To me, it is impossible to dispute the age of the earth (billions of years) or the reality of evolution but, again, I want to hear what you have to say. Thanks, in advance.

When scientists speak of evolution, they are speaking of how man evolved over time from a primate to modern man.  I remember being taught this in school. The question that always comes up is “If we slowly changed from apes to man, why do we still have apes?”

There are other theories around the origin of humanity such as Creation Theory, comprised of old-earth creationists and young earth creationists, and Intelligent Design Theory. More recently, there is another theory called Dual Revelation Theory. You heard of it?

Because hominids didn't "evolve into man." Hominids evolved. The product of that evolution is apes AND humans. Do you find that answer unsatisfying?

Welcome to the forums, btw. It's a pleasure to meet you.

Not just from primates, but from our earliest ancestor, all the way back to the primordial ooze we came from.

And not just humans, but all biological life.

ID, YEC, and OEc arguments have been well and truly debunked.

Never heard of the latter, though the use of the word "revelation" already makes it questionable, as far as I'm concerned.

Welcome, btw.

Edit to add, and we didn't come from apes, we are apes. We and other apes share a common ancestor that we diverged from hundreds of thousands of years ago. That ancestor us extinct.
