For these things to happen there has to be intent as well as access.

But volume makes access easy doesn't it? I don't think it is wise to assume that everyone whom wants to own a dangerous object will automatically go their entire life using it wisely.

Ultimately it is about a flooded market, and ease of access. In a perfect world I would agree with you. But the truth is firearms are too easy to get in a flooded market, and they are handed out like candy.

I've been remiss, keeping #37 on ignore.

Here's a bright spot in this whole gut-wrenching horror story:

It appears that mum and dad were attempting to flee to Canada. Their clever plot failed, however, because they couldn't provide proof of vaccination. Which means they would have had to enter Canada as illegal immigrants.

So - guns, bad parenting, anti-vax, and illegal immigration. It's like all the Republican karma just shit on them in one big, hysterical go.

I don't give one shit about camera angles. That little snot had self entitled parents that treated guns like a Christmas stocking stuffer and neither the store or makers gave one shit that it ended up in his hands, much less the parents.

The parents are indeed assholes - but you blaming the gun shop is just stupid.

They made a legal sale. If you think the parents told a shop owner they were giving their 15 year old a Sig for a present - I guarantee the owner would have shut down the sale.

ATF has been known to sting shops with straw purchases - and no owner will risk his livelyhood over one gun sale. I have seen it with my own eyes on more than one occasion - the owner taking the 4473- tearing it up - and telling the prospective buyer to leave the shop.

Well now that the new refrain is 'handing guns out like stocking stuffers' we have at least limited the time frame for this willy-nilly handing out of firearms.

Holy short term memory Batman! In a perfect world I'd agree with you. But this shit happens 100s of times a day. Not just school shootings, but suicides and domestic violence and accidental.

You suffer the same stupid logic as to why Nadar was vilified for advocating for better car technology such as seat belts and crumple zones.

You, "The parents were wrong"

Me, "No shit Sherlock"

But that does not change ease of access. Not just in the home, but in that the store and makers didn't give a fuck where their products ended up. Just like big tobacco didn't give a fuck that I am a smoker.

America is addicted to guns, why? Because humans are stupid. Why is it other western nations that allow gun ownership don't have the level of firearm violence we do?

I know damned well reading all your prior posts on this subject, that if you owned a gun store, knowing me, and I walked in, you would deny me a buy. Why is that? I know why. Because you don't want to admit that there are people who should not own firearms. These parents were self entitled assholes, otherwise why the text "Just don't get caught"?

I am lucky enough to be self aware. I don't want a firearm. The biggest reason is that I suffer from anxiety and depression. I look back at my life, growing up, my late adoptive father had guns. I don't remember if I was 5 or 6, maybe even 7. My late father got drunk off his ass, and shot his 38 twice with me in the room. I have late 1800s antique music box with a bullet hole, and a lowboy with a bullet hole in it. If it were not for my mom grabbing me and fleeing out of the house, I might not be here.

So I could give a shit less about your pontifications about how  public safety is oppressing you.

Sorry, it isn't enough just to stop at blaming the parents.

Listening to NPR -

Somebody been lying to me?

NPR reports that there is no law in Michigan requiring guns to be locked when not in use.

I have taken the CCW class MANY times - once as required by law - and a bunch more when I sponsored groups to train for their CCW at my home - taught by a NRA trained instructor ( and retired County deputy) and it was hammered into us that we could be civilly and criminally held liable if our guns were stolen ( while unsecured) and used in commission of a crime.

As far as I am concerned - if they can hold you liable - it' s a mandate. You would be a moron NOT to keep your goodies locked up.

So? Nobody is claiming you are lying. I am saying if this is the case, then the laws SUCK!

Of course your firearms should  be locked up and the ammo locked up separately. But if you want to claim your "goodies', which is a morbid way to describe objects that propel led at 700mph or more, you need help.

I am not going to claim that there is never a use for firearms, there is. Hunting, home defense, police and military. I am fine with those things. But to say that the far right, NRA or firearm CEOs are actually interested in public safety is a fucking joke.

In all seriousness OLB, if you are not willing to sell me a firearm, then you are a hypocrite. My point is about logic, nothing more. I am not for banning all firearms, they have their place. I have however, always been concerned with how easy it is to access them.

I would sell you a firearm. I would not, however, sell you a Mars bar. I’m tired of candy being handed out like guns.
