I miss Polly Waffles.

They were a crisp waffle, made into a small tube (candy bar size) which was then filled with marshmallow and  dipped in milk chocolate.

Thank goodness they still make Cherry Ripes ; a cherry and coconut bar dipped into dark chocolate.

Can still get Mars Bars and Snickers. Is it just me or does anyone else think the size of most candy bars has become smaller?

The parents are indeed assholes - but you blaming the gun shop is just stupid.

They made a legal sale. If you think the parents told a shop owner they were giving their 15 year old a Sig for a present - I guarantee the owner would have shut down the sale.

ATF has been known to sting shops with straw purchases - and no owner will risk his livelyhood over one gun sale. I have seen it with my own eyes on more than one occasion - the owner taking the 4473- tearing it up - and telling the prospective buyer to leave the shop.

You have not seen contrary
-and yet straw purchases remain a part of the majority of gun trafficking cases, and corrupt retailers account for more trafficked guns than any other single source.

In your zeal to shit on Brian, you say stupid things.

Michigan law says a gun owner (all guns) can be held civilly and/or criminally liable if their gun is used in commission of a crime. The only exemption is if the gun is stolen FROM A LOCKED GUN SAFE.

So if NPR's reporting is accurate - unless the kid is a safecracker - dad better get charged and convicted for his negligence. 25 years per death seems about right.

That doesn't sound good. It sounds like you can be charged with a crime if you're carrying it for personal protection and someone mugs you, steals the gun, uses the gun to kill someone else.

The only thing I agree with is that if you intend to have kids, you should keep it well out of their reach.

You might be fined, but it's incredibly unlikely.

In this case one of the details of the story suggests that some precaution was taken. The kid was searching for ammo online. Interestingly enough, though some states stipulate that person be 21 to purchase specific types of firearms, they can often purchase the ammo, legally, at 18. That's part of what makes the humble .22lr the standout in trace data. The customer need only say "It's for a single action long gun".

I lean on securing ammo myself, heavily, with four kids on the house. Honestly, though, I don't think my squirreling away the squirrel gun is why my kids wont and haven't blasted anybody - it's because I raised them in gun culture.

Along with those limitations on the purchase of ammo is the fact that in a purchase online it's pretty easy to fake your age. If you got your hands on dad's credit card you're are suddenly old enough.
