Russia and Ukraine

There is a leap of faith and then there is just crawling into the bear's stomach ..... Dodgy

A.K.A any deal with Putin that isn't from a position of Russian defeat or at the very least his forces on the brink of defeat. Putin only respects strength and will view anything less than a defeat as an invitation to try again.

Also, Putin doesn't need to fight NATO directly all he needs to do is undermine its influence in Eastern Europe ....Kind of like he's already been doing for years....And kind of like what Hilter did to his neighbors before invading them..... Dodgy

And of course, IA spews his nonsense that the war is about the meanie west out to get poor Russia. Rather than the actual reason which is defending Ukraine's sovereignty from Russian aggression. And I'm sure this will be met with a lot of "America Bad " and But...But Suadi Arabia etc. etc. etc. Which is simply a Red Herring.

That type of leap of faith is for your fellow employee, not a known dictator who only wants to do what he wants to do.

It's the same kind of leap of faith as allowing a pissed-off cobra down your pants and hoping he won't bite you.

And that's doubly true of the typical populist politics you often shill for.

Ukraine is not in NATO. They are in Russia's sphere of influence, and that sucks, but thems the rules. I didn't say we should never intervene. We have treaties and NATO for a reason.

Ukraine is in NATO's sphere of influence. What's your point?

The metaphor I'd use is right here:

Given that, as I explained yesterday, a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine would very likely have out-Muniched the actual Munich Agreement, the use of Churchill is probably extremely apt. And given that Ukraine's tried and failed to get Putin to agree to treaties multiple times, I can't imagine it working out well this time.

If this graphic from Wikipedia is any indication, it doesn't seem to have moved much in the last couple months, and what little seems to have moved is Russia inching forward.

RE: Russia and Ukraine
There's no "likely" to any agreement with russia being a raging dumpster fire. Russias invasion of ukraine is, itself, a violation of the budapest memorandum. Wherein the us, uk, and russia all agreed to provide security assurances to ukraine if ukraine agreed to nuclear disarmament.

As far as where the map is now, the gains russia took months to accomplish are being eradicated in the course of days as ukraine smashes into poorly supported defensive lines that russia is incapable of adequately supplying. Ukraine rotated the tdf forces out for the newly trained and equipped crop they've been baking the last six months over the entire front.
