Russia and Ukraine

I bet they'd counterpunch somewhere else in the east or south, to both relive pressure and capture further Ukrainian territory.

As unlikely as it may seem, the WWIII issue is not Russia vs The World, it's whatever countries join Russia, like China and India, African countries and South American.

China won't join in, they've too much to lose and nothing to gain from the Ukraine war escalating. India are far more likely to continue fence sitting while Russian commodities are ultra cheap, but try to swing back towards the US afterwards, especially now that they know the Russian weapons systems they invested into are vapourware. And any African nations stupid enough to side with Russia would be as useful as a chocolate teapot in a volcano if a wider war broke out.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The Ukranians are fighting for what's theirs. The Russians are fighting because someone said they had to...I'm figuring the former is a reason that will last longer.

In a better world, maybe - but in this world both ukranians and russian soldiers are hostages. The ukranians will keep fighting as long as a russian rifle is pointed at them...and in this, the russian forces are in a completely equivalent position. They've got ukranian nazi supersoldiers on one side, and invincible russian blocking forces on the other.
