THE Gun Thread
RE: THE Gun Thread
Actually wasn’t much difference in how it ended.

The border patrol guys went in against orders of their own volition and with the help of staff who had a key…over an hour after it began.

They should have given any of the parents they tazed and cuffed their guns and vests, as at least one of them pleaded, in hindsight.

Purely from a “could you do better” perspective…yeah. You’d have to try pretty damned hard to do worse.

Are you saying you could do better?

The reasons why are given above, but here’s some more:

-Poll after poll after poll show that the overwhelming majority of teachers don’t want to be armed.

-Teachers are already educators and counselors. It’s moronic to expect them to be gunfighters as well.

-You’re always bitching about how your tax dollars are spent. Why on earth are you advocating spending billions and billions of dollars on a scheme that will not work?

Agent Albarado is just as wrong as you are.

Fine. We will pay for the mandated bio- lock safes to be mounted on the desks.

The teachers will be free AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE to purchase a firearm to put in aforementioned safe OR a " smart gun" that they are free to carry on their person.
Nobody will be forced to carry against their will and nobody will know which teachers are armed and which are not.

I suppose that won' t suit youbeither.

It was the border patrol dude and his barber.  He got the shotgun from his barber after they drove to the school in response to the border agent getting a text from his wife who is a teacher at the school.  He wasn't even on duty, he was trying to get his hair cut.

A good man - with a (borrowed) gun.

Note - would not have turned out well with a " smart gun".

So bad…that anyone could have done better. A parent…a teacher, even. That’s just the nature of olb’s schizophrenic arguments. First he tells us to hand some hippy pot head with a bachelors a pistol…then he doubts that someone could have done better than what was done.

He’ll need to pick a lane.

I went to school with a classmate who stated in Biology class that all fish come to the surface of the water to breathe. She became an elementary school teacher...yeah, that's not who I want armed in a classroom. We won't discuss her DUI.

Nothing short of all guns evaporating will I suppose....

Your first point requires the teacher to open the safe, retrieve, aim and (accurately) fire the gun BEFORE the nutter with the unsafed semi-auto who has just kicked in the door shoots a hole in his face. Granted, the teacher - if trained - could accomplish this within a few seconds if he's standing at the desk. How do you guarantee that he will be?

All teachers are already free to purchase a gun at their own expense and carry it on their person. There's a reason that most of them don't - they are not, by their own admission, temperamentally suited to do so. You saying it's ok isn't going to change their minds or their mind set.

If no one knows which teachers are armed and which are not, shooters will come up with a simple solution - always shoot the teacher first.

None of that suits me because it doesn't address the problem - a 'solution' that won't work looks an awful lot like no solution at all.

I actually think that US schools need MORE guns on campus, but they need to be in the hands of trained professionals, as opposed to the cosplay pussies of the Uvalde PD. Maybe give Agent Albarado the funding to start a school security training camp.
