19 trained cops can't prevent 22 murders, but one teacher can?

Uh huh. Guess who gets shot first?

Wow - just eight whole days between mass shootings - that's impressive. We haven't had one here since the Christchurch mosque massacre three years ago. Guess we need to step up our game.

Funny thing - when those mosques were shot up and 51 people died, no one suggested arming imams...

In the UK the last school shooting that I am aware of was the Dunblane massacre in 1996

So tell me again how the easy availability of firearms keeps Americans safe...

It is purely a coincidence that countries with more restrictive gun laws than the US (but still make it possible for people to own guns) have fewer school shootings, mass shootings, gun deaths, and gun crimes than the US.

Obviously nothing to do with better vetting, different views about gun ownership, banning some types of guns, better mental health services, and so on. Nope, nothing to do with that at all.

For what it’s worth, the last mass shooting before the Christchurch massacre was in 1997, a gap of 22 years.

Yep, because that is more cost effective than actually better vetting before the firearm leaves the shop. NOT!

I saw a news clip of all the things teachers have to already do and train for in an active shooting setting. And they all said, they have situations where it would be impossible to employ those measures in time.

It is nuts. Not only do these worshipers want to arm teachers, they want to teach kids to live in fear, and teach them to live in an armed police state.

My late mother was a lifetime voting Republican. She voted for Reagan, Bush Sr, Bush Jr, McCain and Romney. Now while she did not vote for Hillary of course, she also thought Trump was certifiable. But her being a career teacher, even she agreed with me that the prospect of arming teachers was bat shit nuts.

Do you think that there is any chance that these people are not mentally ill?

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

RE: THE Gun Thread
They’re entirely unlikely to be mentally ill. We’ve been saying that because we refuse to call them what they really are.

At least some portion of the way along the path to domestic terrorism. At the very least, an equipment dump -for- domestic terrorists.

As an “ experienced combat vet” I see little need to purchase any more firearms. I only need a baseball bat and surprise to be swimming in them should a need arise when this level of material is all over the country, relatively unsecured. I know, I know, our nut is thinking “good luck taking weapons from well armed people!”

Don’t need luck, it’s fucking easy. First, they’re not killers, and I am. That’s assuming we even need to fight about it. I’m the right shade of lipstick and I know the magic words. In the mad max eventuality they’re prepping for…they’ll -give- me whatever rifle and ammo I need and feel great about it. Like they’re helping themselves somehow. Ever was it thus, anywhere I’ve ever been.

They’re not sick. They’ve been groomed. Useful idiots with too much money and nothing better to spend it on.

Back in mere reality, and again as the kind of person who can (presumably) straighten out nutters with stupid ideas about guns and breaching…our standing orders (to my children) are to give any stranger that’s surprised you at home whatever they want -except- any reason to start shooting. That the sound of unplanned gunfire ( which is to say not me popping off a few hundred rounds, use it or lose it) means it’s time to go out the nearest window…down in the creek bed to get low…and follow it all the way to grannies house in silence. Don’t turn around, don’t look for me or mom, do f hesitate. Just….fucking…..run. That they’ve converted so many school windows to plate glass in order to save on utilities is a problem.

We had a drunk neighbor show up armed and with a grievance looking for the previous occupants when we first moved in- think I may even have commented at the time on these boards. Meth heads, metal scavengers, apparently. Can you believe that no shots were fired? How’s it goin John. You off your meds, you hungry, you thirsty? Put that pistol down and come get this plate. The very last thing you want as a parent or as a combatant is even one more gun in a given scenario.

And with that, I yield to the nut and his inevitable fantasies of making some doomed last stand with everyone’s life hanging in the balance, meantime.

Not enough to make that judgement. They could be mentally ill, but owning an absurd amount of firepower isn’t necessarily inductive of that.

On the other hand, the shitty looking homemade grill/smoker tells me they might just be a little…off.

There are more firearms in that pic than we had in our company armory. We didn’t even have any handguns( otoh…I dont see any missiles, rpgs, or grenades…bad form, they’re unprepared). I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit jealous. Wink
