THE Gun Thread

A smart gun is one that uses biometrics to prevent anyone but the owner from firing the gun (sort of like the fingerprint login on your mobile phone).

It would reduce gun violence because if someone steals your gun, he couldn't use it to shoot someone.

Just FYI, the technology for such a thing has been around for decades. It's just not on sale in America because (I shit you not) of a bill in New Jersey that would criminalise the sale of "dumb guns" starting three years after smart guns come onto the market.

In my opinion, such an Ammendment would narrowly restrict the definition of a "militia" to exclude nearly everyone.

Just for the record, the definition of militia is actually extremely broad, consisting of two groups:
  • The organised militia: The National Guard and Naval Militia, more or less.
  • The Unorganised militia: Every single man of military age. That said, the unorganised militia exists largely for conscription purposes.

RE: THE Gun Thread
Unfortunately I have heard/seen lots of video of gunfire from everything you can imagine. I saw the unedited suicide of the Maryland politician who blew his brains out at a press conference because he didn't want to go to jail.

But today's video, even without seeing unedited violence, haunts the fuck out of me. I can't imagine what Tammy Duckworth witnessed in Iraq and lost her legs for, but for her to say that the sound alone was something she had only hears in battle. This is going to cause so much PTSD, especially for prior survivors. It is being assaulted over and over and over and over. And why? Because some selfish fucks want their toys and don't give a fuck who dies in the process.

I see, that is where the disconnect is.  I pray, that if there is a time when you need a gun, you have one.

I see.  And would it reduce violence in general?  Or just for those who own the "smart gun"

Possessing a gun is exchanging one probability distribution for another. Given the high mortality among little children from gun violence, I don't think that such is worth it.

Let's add a twist.

If anyone but the legal owner of the smart-gun pulls the trigger, an explosive charge in the gun goes off, terminating the offender.

And I am sure everything you own that is "smart" works just like it should.  And you could trust it with your life.
