It was supposed to be like a ritual, I think.

Lives from minus infinity without a body, gets a body for 30 years, spends 39 hours back in heaven without a body again, then comes to Earth with a body and gets to live to plus infinity.  Big sacrifice!   Half a weekend!

No, it was simply copying other earlier man god myths.

After the third day when he came back to life, he did not stay among his prophets for many days and went to heaven.
It is said that in India they taught to be buried for three days and come back to life.
Perhaps Jesus learned this method.
Because they nailed his bones and shoulder blades, he must have got an infection and died! Otherwise, he would have lived for 30-40 years and led his religion.

Maybe he never came back after the execution and his prophets lied.

I’ve always wondered why Jesus felt it necessary to go through all the rigamarole of getting himself crucified. Since he was meant to die for our sins anyway, throwing himself under any passing oxcart would have worked just as well.

Boru

He didn't. That belief arose not from Jesus but from his later followers.

It’s a literary criticism, not an historic one. Please keep this caveat handy for any future posts I make regarding the New Testament.

It is an historical conclusion, as no one alive at the time mentioned the belief. If the belief existed, it would have been mentioned. When JFK was shot, people took notice.

Which is why I made it a literary criticism - I was taking aim at the story, not at any purported historical event. I agree that the Crucifixion and all the fooforah surrounding it never happened. It’s like asking why didn’t Gandalf just have the eagles fly the ring to Mordor.

I don’t think I can explain this any more plainly.

I wasn’t talking about the two criticisms as areas of study. I was pointing out what strikes me as a flaw in the story as a story. There is no hair-splitting taking place.

I think you’re being deliberately obtuse.

The Jesus stuff minus the divine is also known as the Apocrypha.

You claimed that it "was not a historical conclusion", and my point in response is that, sometimes, absence of evidence is evidence of absence.
