A decent person is a decent person regardless. I don't think so. What if your child treats you nicely, but fails to acknowledge that you're their father or mother? They don't acknowledge you to you or anybody else. If there is no God then just being nice might be OK, but if there is a God, then we need to acknowledge him.
Suppose you met a wonderful person, a mensch in the truest sense - kind, generous, supportive, patient, and so forth. Would it make a difference to you if this person didn’t ‘acknowledge God’?
Conversely, would you overlook another person’s cruelty, selfishness, indifference, and treachery simply because they DID ‘acknowledge God’?

That's a rather transactional view of love. I've never had children, but if I did, I would exist for their benefit, not the other way around.

I have no love for my mother. It would be nice if I did, but for that to happen I would need a different one.

children do not owe parents love by default because children did make their parents have children. it was parent’s choice and therefore parent’s obligation for making the choice.
children don’t need to earn love, it is owed to them for being unavoidably the product of parent’s choice. parent’s on the other hand must earn children’s love, it is not owed to them because no one, above all not their children, made them have children.
your mentality is the result of ancient primitive barbarous tradition of parents abusing their position of superiority to extort unearned deference. your god is an artifact of that barbarous tradition.
