Mom is 102!

Mom is getting rather frail now and she will probably have to go into a nursing home in a few months. She can no longer play Mahjong due to failing eyesight. She has lived a long prosperous life, having outlived all the friends and relatives she grew up with. She had some anxieties about being there at first, but now seems to be completely enjoying her surroundings. My brother and I visited her last Monday and she was in good spirits. We'll be there again next Monday, along with our sister. There is probably a sense of safety as well as being around people. I hope she remains happy with her new life situation. 102 is amazing! My great grandmother made it to 92 but she is the longest-lived in my family tree...by a few years.
My brother called yesterday morning to let me know that Mom passed away quietly in her sleep around 10:00 o'clock the previous evening. She was being watched over by a caregiver and suffered no pains or discomfort during her final hours. While I am saddened by the news, I'm also relieved that her long decline is finally over and she went peacefully.

Oh well, my condolences.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Can't ask for much more than that. hugs (September 22, 2023 at 8:25 am)Gwaithmir Wrote: My brother called yesterday morning to let me know that Mom passed away quietly in her sleep around 10:00 o'clock the previous evening. Thank you all for your posts and condolences. I'll be taking some time off from the forums for a while. See you guys later.
