2024 US Presidential Election

Former President Donald Trump is facing "insurmountable difficulties" in obtaining a bond to satisfy the $464 million civil fraud judgment, his attorneys said Monday in a new appellate court filing, and the magnitude of which would require him to use real estate as collateral.

...

About that real estate... Are those the same assets with inflated values and existing liens in a market where commerical real estate is in a depression? Those same assets which are featured in this very same fraud case?

No one legitimate is going to loan half a billion against those assets.

I love the finding out part.

I imagine it something like this:

INSURER: And how much would you like us to underwrite?

TRUMP: $400 million.

INSURER: And the purpose of this bond?

TRUMP: I lost a court case because I wouldn’t stop lying about the value of the properties I own.

INSURER: I see. And what collateral can you offer?

TRUMP: These properties I own. They’re totally worth $400 million.

INSURER: One moment, please. *hits intercom button* Get security up here. Now.

What I'm hearing is that there's 30 some odd insurers that are going to be un-corporate-personed and liquidated on day one of the trump dictatorship.

It's quite amusing how Donald Trump in the past said he was rich, and now that would be hypocritical because he can't even pay a 464 million dollar bond on his own. He's always been a failure to me, and it is no surprise that he has money trouble here.

That said, Trump still thinks he is somehow above all despite his failures and setbacks, even with winning the 2016 election, which I doubt he could have done on his own. I talked to my dad earlier about this, and he said something about Trump having ties to those like Putin and Arab countries. I would like to think that if he was really American, he would not depend on people from other countries, especially a person who rules a country and is maliciously slaughtering people of another country. Not that Trump cares about what people think of him if he gets that bond settled and paid with the help of the likes of Putin, but that is definitely not going to help people's perception of him if he were to get help from Putin on this, regardless of his not caring overall. Don't know the odds of whether or not he will get some Russian or Arab help from this, but yeah; if he were a billionaire, he should have this settled no problem. But thing is, he is not.

That said, to me, it is like he is asking people to hold his hand on things like this. The people of the USA, other republicans, Putin and Russia, the Arab countries he has connections to, those kinds of people. It is as if Trump does not have the confidence he can do things on his own.

He reminds me of Jay Gatsby.

Classic Trump special treatment.

If anyone else couldn’t pay the bond, their property would’ve been seized.

If anyone else had attacked Congress, they would’ve been banned from office.

If anyone else had stolen classified intel or raped a woman, they would’ve been imprisoned.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

He reminds me of Jay Gatsby.

But, then again, I haven’t read the book in about a decade, but IIRC, Gatsby was at least solvent. Granted, he probably wouldn’t have stayed that way if he survived to see the Great Depression, but still.

I meant it more that he's a "self-made" man -- in the sense that he reinvents himself, because he lives in fear of no one respecting him. Sometimes on a daily basis in Trump's case. He fears being seen as the fraud he is.

It turns out that the Chubb Corporation (the insurers who issued Trump's bond in the E. Jean Carroll case) were willing to issue one in his fraud case. They simply asked that he set aside 200% of the bond amount in a cash reserve - roughly a billion dollars - as security. Insurers typically ask for 110% to 120%.
