That's fair.

But I think the two-party circus tends to make people play down the horribleness of their own team. I'm glad you're not guilty of that.

They're not equally bad. For starters, Trump is pushing for Project 2025 which plans to turn the US into a dictatorship, take people's medicare, abolish the department of education, go after marriage equality, cut social security, deregulate environmental protections, break immigrant families, and many more bad things.

People who think the both parties are equally bad are the circus.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Like Bush-era Republicans, current Democrats support war, censorship, and a border wall (Harris recently reversed her position on this; she supports more wall now).

I don't see anyone here defending Biden's policies. Why are you practicing this not-so-subtle whataboutism when the topic is the threat Trump presents to American democracy? You know as well as I that Trump is supporting Israeli war-crimes at least as much as Biden is.

But Biden isn't running, and Harris may not support the policies the President is currently enacting. This thread is about the 2024 election, not your particular bugbears. You want to mount a "they're both the same" argument, grow a pair and open your own thread.

Of course you won't.

From my pov two party system is crap designed to make politicians life easier. One does not have to put much effort when there isn't much to choice from; it promotes complacency in politicians who merely have to say that they aren't as bad as their opponents.

Remember when we thought Bush was bad?
Yes, if bad tells you that worse should be avoided, its a good reminder of what "worse" actually is, and always was, unless your are of course Belaqua, to whom everybody (he does not support) is equally "bad". The problem is not Bush, Trump or how bad they are, but, how anyone and everyone who disagrees with you is intellectually inferior and anyone and everyone who does not support your political position is equally "bad", aka your attitude.

It’d take one goddamned big windmill to get me to stop eating bacon.

RE: 2024 US Presidential Election
Quote:NEW YORK (AP) — Next month’s debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump won’t have an audience, live microphones when candidates aren’t speaking, or written notes, according to rules that ABC News, the host network, shared this week with both campaigns.

A copy of the rules was provided to the Associated Press on Thursday by a senior Trump campaign official on condition of anonymity ahead of the network’s announcement. The Harris campaign on Thursday insisted it was still discussing the muting of mics with ABC.

The parameters now in place for the Sept. 10 debate are essentially the same as they were for the June debate between Trump and President Joe Biden, a disastrous performance for the incumbent Democrat that fueled his exit from the campaign. It is the only debate that’s been firmly scheduled and could be the only time voters see Harris and Trump go head to head before the November general election.
