How can Trump claim that the country is in a dire economic state where most people can't afford food and at the same time he expects from those same people to buy from him expensive watches, fake dollar bills, coins with his face, models of his airplane, crypto coins, expensive NFTs with his images, special expensive editions of Melania's book, stocks of his fake company, and other expensive stuff he is selling?

His target market (for votes and grift) is relatively well off. He knows that, or whoever manages his merch and campaigns does. The idea that the us is in dire economic straights is no more complicated than the observation that brown people have things that ought to belong to whites, and specifically white trump supporters, aka real americans.
If they could get rid of the rest of us unpersons, they'd be really rich. Not just pretend rich in trailer built mcmansions. They'd get more school, and more hospital, and more job, and most importantly.... more respect.
