Barack Obama showed off some of his rap skills after being introduced by Eminem during a Harris-Walz campaign rally in Detroit on Tuesday. The former president dropped some bars to "Lose Yourself" as he took the stage.

Eminem first spoke, wearing a Detroit Tigers hat, to introduce Obama and encourage folks to vote while highlighting the importance of freedom of speech

I've not posted much regarding the election on Facebook as I don't want a bunch of grief from dipshits like my brother.

Last night I posted that I was/had voted Democrat and made the statement that once the "Grab 'em in the pussy" remark came to the fore, I was done and nothing has happened since to make be change my mind.

Got the most interesting take on that remark from someone I grew up with you called it "locker room talk" that happened 20 years ago when Trump didn't know he was being recorded.  There's some spin right there.

She went on and on about the bazillions of illegal immigrants and some other nonsense about how Kamala should not be allowed to run and blah, fucking blah.

Backstory - this is a woman my sister's age.  They were pretty good friends when in school and I got brought into the circle later.  My sister was NOT allowed to stay at her house when they were growing up....pretty harsh considering the insanity that was our house.  But then there was the time that (we will call her S) S's father who was one of the owners of the biggest industry in town called our high school looking for a part time bookkeeper.  Sr. Mary Claire thought I would be a perfect fit and set up an interview for me.  I went to the interview - mind you the man was a golf and card playing friend of my father.  Instead of talking about anything having to do with an office job, he proceeded to say that I knew his marriage wasn't good and he would pay me to spend time with him (wink, wink).  

I suppose you can call it locker room talk when you were raised by a man proposing prostitution with an underage girl.

Goddamn, I hate people sometimes.

That’s what they said the last time and then he won. I already voted. I wish it was over with already. Every day is a thick dread. It’s going to be a close one. Just maybe he really won’t win and maybe even he will just go away after not winning. That would be nice.

I confess an anxiety about this election, the way the polls are drooping. He might win.

Even if he doesn't -- and even if his followers don't stage Insurrection 2.0 -- those people aren't going anywhere, and neither are the politicians trying to scoop up their votes. He may himself go away, but other and smarter fascisti will not. And they know they have seventy or so million voters they can manipulate.

So winning this election is possible, but with those Trumpeteers still around, the fight will still go on long afterward, because those Trump voters aren't going anywhere.

Male locker room talk is mostly a myth created by women because women talk explicitly among themselves and thus think that men are like that. Women talk about everything while men are more discreet. Each sex assumes the opposite sex is just the way they are. So, women think men are explicit, and men think women are romantic. Eventually that becomes a stereotype that nobody questions. Even that Trump's so-called locker room talk was started by Melania, but what Trump did was talk about sexual assault.

He may himself go away, but other and smarter fascisti will not. And they know they have seventy or so million voters they can manipulate.

Maybe it does go away after Trump loses. Back during the Watergate days there were many people who saw Nixon as a victim and if Nixon railed them there could have been some sort of uprising or some similar mess, but he went away and it all quickly calmed down.

Now when it comes to some smart fascist (or even a smart Republican) I don't see that ever happening because in order to be a fascist you have to ultimately work against yourself. You have to be against a lot of stuff that make society function that no smart person would ever do. And it's hard to see how anyone could replace Trump in his abilities that he can say and do whatever he wants without any repercussions. Even Pence can’t get away with it.

How many riots were there when Nixon was forced to resign? How was Nixon going to rally anyone after Watergate when he had all the charisma of a dead fish? I don't think 1974 America and 2024 America are very comparable.

Now when it comes to some smart fascist (or even a smart Republican) I don't see that ever happening because in order to be a fascist you have to ultimately work against yourself. You have to be against a lot of stuff that make society function that no smart person would ever do.

You mean like impose tariffs to cover tax cuts? Maybe suggesting home remedies for a novel respiratory infection that was both easily transmissible and highly virulent? Or maybe suggesting to Putin that if he invaded a NATO that was not honoring the 2% rule, the US would not honor its Article 5 commitments?

Those are all impossibly stupid things that Trump said or did, and yet here we are, with this election within the margin of error.

And it's hard to see how anyone could replace Trump in his abilities that he can say and do whatever he wants without any repercussions. Even Pence can’t get away with it.

Don't agree with this.  You certainly can't claim you know what women talk about and if you think men are discreet then you haven't spent a lot of time working around men.  Nice brushing over of what Trump said though.  Are you and S in on this together to protect his tender self?

My wife's friends know more about me and my sex life than my friends know about my wife and hers. The men in my social group do not have frank or open discussions about our sex lives, and we never have. OFC, we were all pretty much done with locker rooms by the time the term got leveraged as an excuse for what some sexual assaulter got caught saying in private.

Sexual gossip is something men and women both do, and communication style is likely the kernel of the idea that "locker room talk":ala what trump is doing.. is a myth created by women (reinforced in this instance by melania as an excuse, as above) - because what trump was doing is what a person who speaks frankly and openly about their sex life would do.. assuming that person was a fucking rapist.

So..you know, the next time you hear anyone, male or female, say that this is just a thing we do and boys will be boys, consider that this may sound amazing to many of the boys..billy bush included. You could hear that little shit blushing, and he was no shrinking violet on the matter himself.
