There's plenty of cowardice running loose in the corridors of power.
Self-serving cowardice in the corridors of power is going to lead the U.S. into a dictatorship. I'm betting the U.S. experiment has almost run its course, and half the country wants it dead. They want a dictator who will destroy the blacks and minorities and lefties and atheists. They believe it will usher in a new golden age of christian white power, all the while claiming it is the "other side" that were the dictators.

Quote:Trump is even stronger than he looks against his Republican rivals
Polls continue to show Donald Trump with a massive lead over his competition for the Republican presidential nomination. Yet, many of his opponents continue to hold their fire against the former president. They may be doing so in hopes of eliminating all their non-Trump competition before taking on Trump himself.
The problem with this plan is that it won’t work. Trump’s rivals have to do something different to knock him off his perch. Unlike in 2016, when there were signs that he could be defeated in a one-on-one contest (which never actually happened), Trump holds major advantages this time around.
He’s up by more than 40 points nationally when polled against his closest rivals (Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley). More than that, he is pulling in greater than 60% of the Republican vote. Even if his rivals were able to consolidate into one super candidate, Trump would still win majority support.

This is a sprint for Veep -- except perhaps Christie, who seems to truly hate the man.

Quote:Former President Donald Trump on Saturday characterized warnings that his victory in 2024 would represent a threat to democracy as a “hoax” and “Democrat misinformation.”
The former president, who faces federal and state charges stemming from his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, said in a speech hosted by the New York Young Republican Club that President Joe Biden “is the real threat to democracy.”
......
“But no, I’m not a threat. I will save democracy. The threat is Crooked Joe Biden,” Trump said.
He added: “And that’s what it is, it’s a hoax. We call it now the threat-to-democracy hoax, because that’s what it is.”

Yeah, he is definitely lying. He is too unhinged to not threaten democracy.

Bottom line is that when you must deny that you're a threat to democracy, you're probably a threat to democracy

One of the few smart things I've heard from Mitt Romney:
Quote:Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) compared former President Trump’s “dictator” remark to the output of a “human gumball machine,” noting that neither is filtered before coming out.
In an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press” with Kristen Welker, Romney said that he was less concerned about the implications of Trump saying he would be a “dictator” on day one and more concerned about the actions he took toward the end of his presidency when asked about Trump’s comment.
“When I was a kid, there were something called a gumball machine. You could put a penny in, and a gumball would come out. It was automatic. There was no filter: Put in the penny, out came the gumball. Donald Trump is kind of a human gumball machine,” Romney said, explaining, “A thought or a notion comes in, and it comes out of his mouth. There’s not a lot of filter that goes on. There’s not a lot of, ‘What’s the implication?’ No, no. He just says whatever.”
“I don’t attach an enormous amount of impact to the particular words that come out and try and evaluate each one of them,” Romney said. “I do think you can look at his record as president and particularly in the last months of his presidency and say, ‘This is a dangerous approach. It’s an authoritarian approach.’ That gives me far more concern than him playing to the crowd as he did.”
