Gun Control

Unlike the cops, though...we weren't allowed to kit up to our vehicles, because no one believed that peace would be what followed from driving them into the crowds - and we were dealing with terrorists and gun runners.  I've long been amused by how cops at home have a less restrictive roe and setup than soldiers in a conflict zone do.

We were mostly a shield and baton crowd, push em in and bodysnatch, but we couldn't call in an ifv for backup.

@arewethereyet

I'd be careful posting anything about cops dying in the line of duty, turns out plenty of them die dealing drugs or drunk driving or breaking and entering into the wrong house.  It's not a dangerous job.  For all we know this was another fuckup..and the signs are already there in that article.

Quote:The actions Henderson referenced in her post were undertaken during a 911 call that came in at 2:49am from a home in the 9300 block of Bernoulli Drive; the caller said she was being stabbed. Minutes later, officers arrived. A third person escaped the home and told officers the assailant was still inside and armed with a knife.

An hour later, around 4am, officers with APD’s SWAT team arrived and forced their way into the home. A shootout ensued, resulting in the death of Pastore and the injury of the second officer. After the shooting, officers found the assailant and two hostages dead, but it is unclear if any were killed in the shootout.

I don't think we'll be able to reverse the militarization of our police until we abandon myths about the us - that it's the wild west.  Myths about gun deaths - that it's gangs or criminals - and myths about the nature of the job and it's dangers.  Doesn't crack the top ten.  You're more likely to die working in a tomato field than as a police officer.

I've decided not to engage with you much any more.  Thank you for your input though.

I know, I know, cold water - but cop math is weird, don't you think? They get a call about a stabbing and an hour later after a nice big shootout everyone is dead, including a cop. I can't imagine they see that as good work either. The post 9-11 situation vis a vis policing has made them a little batty, you can expect these sorts of outcomes, imo.

It wouldn't be. But how often does that happen? "Once is ENOUGH!!" won't do. I know the principle, "the nail that sticks up gets hammered down first".

RE: Gun Control
That's a good question, but we don't really know how often it happens because there's no oversight. There's no list, no one maintaining that list, and no legal necessity to create one. If you'll recall, the cops tried mightily to pin their fuckup at breonna taylors house on the boyfriend. Had one of them been killed you'd certainly have seen the "died in the line of duty" headlines. As though what they were doing was dangerous, rather than them literally being the only danger there.

Even without that official list, we seem to have no end of examples, so IDK what the point of suggesting it may be a rare occurrence is. It's not. We just don't know the maximum extent of it....and if we were sane about policing, that would be more worrisome than any individual event.

Okay, I'm done. You don't know police procedures.

I don't have to know police procedures to know that there isn't one for tracking murderous cops or to know that the police often try to cover their own crimes in glory. It's a pretty well publicized issue, along with the bundle of others related to it.

-and hey, don't take my word for it, ask The Cops. They tried to put together a thing they call the ndi - doesn't work..for exactly the issues I stated, according to them - and internal resistance and failure to cooperate (I believe a cop would call that comply...lord knows that can get you killed) are the main barriers to making it work. The police do not want to be policed, full stop.

We put up with this, imo, because we believe a bunch of myths about america, the cops, and crime...particularly after 9-11.

You used to kill people for less than nine dollars a day?? My god - this is completely new information!
