that is how fiction works

If Tolkien says a character is both alive and not alive, then that's canon

I guess real life works the same as fiction, then?

But if that's the case then why did Schrödinger purposefully create Schrödinger's cat to demonstrate how absurd it is to be both alive and not alive?

If reality works just like fiction, then Schrödinger should have had no qualms

The reason I'm interested in this is that it seems some of my fellow atheists are not willing to concede that - if a god hypothetically proved his/her/its existence to them - any god which exists in the real world has to be incapable of performing logically impossible feats, such as creating a married bachelor.

No, logical impossibilities wouldn't be a factor if I were assessing the credentials of a god-like being.

That's another way to ask the same question, sure. If we're conceiving of gods as the author of all creation then they're as bound by shit like logic or physics as harry potter would be. Which is to say not at all. Does it or can it do the logically impossible? Why not..and if or when it did, well..that's just proof of it's divinity, right thur....isn't it?

Who but a god....

Alright you guys win.

If I wake up tomorrow to discover that Allah is real, I'll be sure not to go around making bets as to what he can't do. I'm particularly scared of him, based on how I've heard muslims describe hell

You'd be no more or less safe from allah based on whatever bets you make. Even that implies some regular order and rule. Maybe allah is as amused by your bets as it is by the smell of burning flesh and you get into paradise...sexbots and all, on the court jester fast-track.

I've heard that sort of reasoning be used as a counter to Pascal's wager

Basically, people say that god is just as likely to reward sinners and nonbelievers as he is to punish sinners and nonbelievers

Is that actually a valid counter to Pascal's wager?

It's gospel night at the strip club. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Jesus loves the drunkards and the whores and the queers.

We recently discussed things like betting your soul on the boards - I won't gamble with a twenty, that's degenerate shit - so obviously my soul would be out of bounds if I had one...which...clearly...I don't. I don't know whether to be jealous or relieved by that fact....I will say it solves alot of problems not having the coin you have to gamble for entry to the club. The sons of adam have tough choices to make.
