The troops will largely be activated from "Republican-controlled states".
Trump threatened to send the “regular military” into Chicago and New York.

Call me crazy but this sounds like civil war.
It's also execrably bad military tactics, trying to wage war on multiple fronts simultaneously and telegraphing the move far in advance. My Spidey senses are tingling - who's actually in charge here, what are they really planning, and what are they trying to distract from?
The entire "crime is rampant, we need to call in the Guard" is so obviously ginned-up bullshit for "we'll make the libs cry about this while all the other shittiness goes unnoticed." They don't want conversation about the Medicaid cuts, they don't want conversation about the strong attempts to seize control of the economy by threatening Powell, nor the extension of tax cuts for the wealthy. The Alaska summit, which was such a predictable failure, came about as a distraction too, I believe.
This isn't any sort of military exigency, and tactics/operational arts don't apply. This is about using the military as warm bodies in pursuance of a political agenda.

In addition, I think Trump's handlers may be looking at the threats of, or actual use of, the Guard and/or regular service as a method of provoking a violent response in order to convince him to impose martial law ahead of the mid-terms.

But, hey… at least we’re not talking about Epstein.

Which is SURE to start a civil war. Remember the ‘No Kings’ protests? Imagine ten times that many people, ten times angrier…and armed.
I think even the MAGAts might take to the streets if their right to vote was taken away.

They won't take away the right to vote. What they will do is gerrymander, intimidate, and falsify their way to winning the ostensibly "free and fair" midterms.

My comment was about Trump imposing martial law ahead of the midterms. Historically, martial law suspends elections.
But I agree that Republicans stealing the election is a far more likely scenario.

Right, mine is just a blunt opinion, based on the idea that as stupid as the Administration in DC is, even they understand that simply taking away the franchise will arouse insuperable opposition.

I am sure that Presidente Dumbfuckio's new excretive order banning the burning of the American flag was well-researched. One of the appropriate ways to dispose of a retired flag is in a ceremony in which it is burned. But, what do I know?

SCOTUS has also determined that burning the US flag as a protest is protected free speech. Then again, with the current gaggle, it wouldn’t surprise me to see that ruling overturned.

I'm sure they'll sell it as a temporary measure, until this period of lawlessness is ended, or some such bullshittery to keep the base quiet.
