Donald Trump has ordered his special forces commanders to draw up a plan for the invasion of Greenland - but is being resisted by senior military figures, The Mail on Sunday has learned.
Sources say that the policy 'hawks' around the US President, led by political adviser Stephen Miller, have been so emboldened by the success of the operation to capture Venezuela's leader Nicolas Maduro that they want to move quickly to seize the island before Russia or China makes a move.
British diplomats believe that Trump is also motivated by a desire to distract American voters from the performance of the US economy before the mid-term elections later this year, after which he could lose control of Congress to the Democrats.
But such a dramatic move would put him at odds with Sir Keir Starmer and would effectively lead to the collapse of Nato.
According to the sources, the President has asked the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to prepare the invasion plan, but it is being resisted by the joint chiefs of staff on the grounds that it would be illegal - and would not be supported by Congress.
One source said: 'They have tried to distract Trump by talking about less controversial measures, such as intercepting Russian 'ghost' ships - a clandestine network of hundreds of vessels operated by Moscow to evade Western sanctions - or launching a strike on Iran.'

Trump has said one of the reasons that Russia making a move on Greenland is bad is that 'we don't want Russia for a neighbor'. Someone should get him a map.
If NATO collapses or even continues without the US, it's not going to 'distract American voters from the performance of the US economy'. It's going to tank the US economy in such a way that Trump's tweet-storms to the contrary aren't going to fool even his most ardent supporters.

I think it's all about legacy. Just like his ballroom and the Kennedy Center, he wants a big legacy. His entire career has been about promoting his brand rather than substantive things.

Yes, Trump is highly motivated by self-aggrandizement. Nevertheless, the Kennedy Center will most likely have his name stripped off after he is gone, and the U.S. would likely give back Greenland if he took it.
Trump reminds me of certain managers I worked under during my professional career. They would make changes to our systems without understanding why they were that way to begin with, just to make their marks. In that sense, Trump is both self-motivated and self-destructive. He may yet be impeached a third time if Democrats win back the House in the midterms.

Two things the stable genius said recently:
"We don't want to have Russia as a neighbor"
"Just because Denmark landed a boat on Greenland 500 years ago doesn't mean they own the place"

Trump’s New Message To America:
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Donald Trump suffered a stroke several months ago and has kept it from the public, a prominent medical expert has suggested.
Professor Bruce Davidson of Washington State University’s Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine made the bombshell claim about the 79-year-old president’s health while laying out “lines of evidence supportive” that have also been reported on by the Daily Beast over the past year.
“I think his stroke was on the left side of the brain, which controls the right side of the body,” Davidson told biographer Sidney Blumenthal and Princeton historian Sean Wilentz on their podcast.
“I think the stroke was six months ago or more, earlier in 2025,” he continued. “There are videos of him shuffling his feet, which is not what we’d seen previously when he was striding on the golf course. We’ve seen him holding his right hand cradled in his left. Earlier in 2025, he was garbling words, which he hadn’t done before and which he’s improved upon more recently.”
Davidson also pointed to what he described as “marked episodes of excessive daytime sleepiness,” known medically as hypersomnolence, which he said is common among stroke patients. Trump is now routinely appearing to nod off in public appearances such as White House events.
He further suggested that footage showing Trump gingerly descending the steps of Air Force One while gripping the banister with his left hand, despite the president being right-handed, is “consistent with having had a stroke on the left side of the brain.”
Elsewhere during his podcast appearance, Davidson suggested that Trump’s erratic and aggressive governing style during his second term could also be consistent with post-stroke behavioral changes.
“It’s a very serious, concerning, life-threatening, upsetting, scary event, and people react in different ways,” Davidson said. “Some people respond with humility and gratitude. Others become euphoric—‘I was at the cliff of death, and now I’m back.’ And some think, ‘That was my chance to die, and I didn’t—so now I’m going to do everything I wanted to do, because the next one may be fatal.’”
