Not according to the articles I've seen. Again, the debate is not "whether" but "who".

I doubt seriously an indictment would have come down and an arrest made if there was still serious debate on the authenticity.

The indictment leveled 44 charges of forgery, fraud and deception against Golan and 13 lesser counts against a co-defendant, antiquities dealer Robert Deutsch.

The man is on trial....not the artifact. Even in Israel the question is, Did he forge them beyond a reasonable doubt.

Given the assorted tools and accoutrements which were found in Golan's apartment the issue seems clear cut but putting the chisel in his hand is a difficult thing to prove.

Acquittal for Golan does not prove the artifacts are legitimate...merely that he can not be said to have forged them BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT.

It is similar to creationist nonsense. They have nothing to sustain their asinine position that life began 6,000 years ago in the Middle East. NOTHING. Yet they all act as if all they have to do is poke holes in the Theory of Evoution ( and the assholes can't even do that ) and then their religious horseshit becomes true by default. Incorrect. Janus was the god of crossroads, openings, that sort of thing. He was typically depicted with two or four faces, one looking forwards, one looking back, or in all the directions. If January is the first month of the year, then it would make sense for it to bear the name of the god who looked both in the past and the future - on the threshold.

There's a great poem by Jorge Luis Borges that mentions him called "Limits:
