I'm beginning to hate religious people.

RE: I'm beginning to hate religious people.
Hey there, welcome Smile

I share your pain. It is so hard to see how anyone can believe in all that garbage.

In their defence, the biggest reason for believing it is indoctrination. It is the equivalent of mental abuse from an early age. It drills in fantasy as fact, nonsense as reality, as the child is surrounded by delusion people and it's all they have to learn from. They trust these people to teach them, and they get their head filled with nonsense. Questioning it is discouraged, sometimes aggressively. They may barely meet anyone who doesn't buy into it, and they are scolded for showing any signs of disbelief. So they get programmed, hard wired to a degree, to believe this shit. As children they are vulnerable, and this isn't their fault.

They become so good at it that even as adults, they can hold contradictory beliefs (religion vs reality) in their head at the same time, the human brain is really good at it. It takes a strong person and a critical, brave mind to challenge these building blocks of their "education".

So yes, they appear very stupid. And they will talk utter garbage to defend their nonsense, because their brain is automatically defending what they cling to, what must be true, or else they have to consider they've been lied to their whole life.

I'm not making excuses for them, but call it mitigating circumstances or diminished responsibility. They are mentally impaired by indoctrination, and it's not easy for them to break free.

Nevertheless, aggressively coming at you is indefensible. That is bullying and they have no right to do it. They should respect your beliefs or lack of. There's no excuse for that.

I'm sorry you have to deal with all this, maybe you could tell us more about your situation?

Well I hate the fundies, I don't hate the normies.

I was a sane (relatively) religious person at one point, as were a lot of atheists Wink

I don't give a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut why Christians want me to convert. What I want is for them to leave me alone.

When confronted by some moron wanting to know what religion I am, I reply "An atheist Buddhist." Of course, they think I worship Buddha, so my reply generally dumbfounds them.

The fact is we atheist know why Christans feel entitled to be rude or nosey. Many of us were Christians at one point. Atheists are supposed to be considerate of Christians fantasies but Christians don't have to show politeness back to us. In this thread some have stated that they are afraid to answer illegal questions about their faith because they wouldn't get a job.

How dare you blaspheme the all holy Invisible Pink Unicorn! You obviously don't understand the nature of the IPU. If God can be a trinity, then the IPU can be both invisible and pink at the same time.

The holy unicorn has two opposing sides to her nature. It is a beautiful mystery that only those who believe in her glorious existence understand.
