Prayer ... SERIOUSLY?!
RE: Prayer ... SERIOUSLY?!
Statler is most certainly not correct in that regard. Incest is harmful to the potential offspring, and our revulsion towards incest stems from this basic fact. Its a survival mechanism.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

That doesn't make Incest harmful, it makes incestuous reproduction harmful. And humans used to breed in very small groups, as do many animals, AFAIK the usual "genetic defects" argument against the offspring of incest are largely urban myth spreading from our own emotional biases towards the matter.

I would also like to add

Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

You're right, it doesn't sound like the bible is promoting fear of homosexuals, sounds more like execution.

I have to agree with Void and Stat, though Stat's reasoning -- if you can call it that -- is different than Void's reasoning. The very suffix phobia connotes fear. Any base followed by phobia is an irrational fear of whatever that base word describes. In fact, I would go even further and say that homophobia, and other phobias, is more than just fear. It is intense fear, anxiety and irrational reactions to homosexuals. I have never met anyone who is actually homophobic, though I have bandied the term about more than I care to admit in this post. Which makes it hate literature. I won't disagree with you there.

Execution is a rational reaction to a homosexual?

No, but it is not an irrational, fear-based reaction. Now, if the Bible promoted screaming like a girl when you see a gay person, crying, shaking and then killing said gay person for fear it might have sex with you or something ridiculous like that, I might agree with you.

“Dear Heavenly Father, we thank thee for this beautiful day (it was raining and cold), and for your bountiful goodness and merciful heart. (by the way, this is a 56 yr old who just lost his job and has no unemployment insurance) We are so grateful for the blessings you have bestowed upon us and upon our children. (Both my sister-in-law and I have been laid off for 3+ months) We ask only that you bless this food before us, that it may strengthen and nourish our bodies (which is exactly what food already does do for our bodies), and that we may enjoy our time of fellowship together. (he’s a mechanic – he NEVER talks like this during the course of any given day) We thank thee for your amazing gift to us, the lord Jesus Christ, and we look forward to that glorious day when we can join you in Heaven. Amen."

I throw up a little bit in my mouth every time I hear it.

I imagine that if their god was real he'd be annoyed as hell!
Imagine if you’re god/Allah, and 50 million people are thanking you for the food 3x a day. 150 million prayers - Everybody thanking you daily for their lunch burrito or their fucking hot pocket --- EVERY DAY until the world ends!!?!
I think I'd be destroying it a hell of a lot sooner than scheduled!

Anyway, I’d like to know how you believers pray?
Where do you pray? How often do you pray?
And what the hell is up with the “holier-than-thou speech” used in prayers?

Anybody? Thoughts? What is the usefulness of prayer?
Point made. Just went to McDonalds to grab a bite. Family of four saying the blessing over their $1 ice cream sundaes.
Come-on. Is that really necessary? Does your god really need you to thank him that often?!?!?!

Ugh I remember during Ramadan I'd have to listen to the TV that had prayers on 24/7. I couldn't eat and I was forced to fast the stupid fast. When I was living in the middle east the fucking mosque was only a minute walk away. Everyday the fucking prayer went off 5 times a day even at 4 am first thing in the morning. On Friday it's especially loud and if you look out you can see everyone doing this Worship (large)Worship (large)Worship (large)Worship (large)Worship (large)Worship (large). Honestly I don't have that much of a problem with religious people, the biggest problem I have with them is that they think we're going here DevilDevilDevil for being ourselves and WAKING UP.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Depends. Did you have a reason for it or not?
