Pray Away the Gay
|
This is extremely rediculous their simply living out their sexual desire's in a more hidden fashion. But for shits and giggles lets pretend its possible to pray away the gay, possibly in the form of an nursery rhyme.
"Gay, Gay go away, come again another day" Say it every day for 2 weeks and it comes true.
Live every day as if already dead, that way you're not disappointed when you are.

By "environment," I meant the influence of things on a person such as cultural acceptance, family dynamics, and the media as well. The 'materialism' of science has already, in reality, done away with this idea of "gene identification" and articles that attempt to explain behavior in terms of genes are basically for pushing agendas. It is now well-acknowledged that genetic expression can be modified by the environment, meaning 'pre-disposition' is not really pre-disposition because your behavior can 'alter' your genes. Even certain strands of evolutionary theory argue that diet affects people differently, depending upon where they were brought up. For example, depression can affect the biological, and the biological can affect the psyche. Neuroplasticity had shown the neural networks can change depending upon assertion of will. The media often presents 'biological' differences in brain sizes as evidence of a cause of such things as homosexuality, yet it is now well-known that the opposite is also true, which is that behavior can also modify the brain size. Very rarely is it mentioned in the same context that certain criminals have different 'brain sizes'. That's why the main problem in such approaches is that, besides not being across the board, these 'differences' are measured after the fact, not before.
When did you choose to be straight again?

I didn't choose to be straight, but this doesn't mean that the gays do not choose to be gay nor something that is beyond their control forever (unless if you're a determinist).

Once again you are just making claims without backing things up. As far as I know, behavior does not change brain structure. This doesn't mean you're wrong, you just need to show something to back that up. This could all be futile as all you have to do to prove sexuality is a choice is to be homosexual for a month.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

If you didn't "choose" to be straight, then your contention against homosexuals holds-a no water.

Lets look at it this way. if you tried as hard as you can to change into a homosexual do you think you think you could accomplish this? There have been homosexuals long before your children's books referred to now as bibles were written. remember we are (whether you believe it or not) a part of the animal over-all species. there is a cycle in which our lives take. this cycle is determined by our hormonal/maternal/procreational instincts. when we reach pubescent levels of hormone we begin feel what we haven't before. this is cycle all living things take in one way or another. a plant lets go of seed. a human engages intercourse. it isnt that hard to believe that homosexuality is a simple genetic disposition. you would never blame someone one for being epileptic or retarded. you would never condemn someone with 6 fingers, although they have mental or physical deviations they are the same as you and me. they might wish they weren't, but no amount of prayer will change them.

To claim that it's 100% nature or 100% choice are both fallicious as there's evidence for both. Claiming it's all one or the other is in denial of evidence. Sexual behavior is not the same as sexual orientation. I feel that orientation is majorly (almost entirely) genetic, while behavior is the same ratio of nature/nurture to which the dominant orientation is nurtured and the strength if it's genetic dominance. Behavior almost by defaul assumes a choice in every incidence I can think of. To say homosexual behavior isn't a choice I would say is fallicious. Sexual Orientation, based on genetics, I'll conceed is far enough into the nature realm as too fundamental to who we are as individuals to be a choice.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
