I agree. Being 99.9999% certain that gods do not exist means the tag atheist just about covers it.
Agnostics amplify the 00.0001% chance of gods existing . Why?

I think any hostility between different isms of freethinkers is completely counter productive. Whether you want to sit on the fence, redefine the natural universe as "God" or are one of those weird deists, as long as we agree we live in a natural universe best understood through science and reason, we agree on what matters. Chill the fuck out Penn.

As we occasionally discover around here, giving yourself a label that isn't necessarily black and white and requires people to do a modicum of thinking can be hazardous to your sanity. Dodgy

Not true, because certainty in the matters of God is not a requirement for one to be an atheist.

Either you believes in God, or you don't believe in God. There can't be any middle ground. However, you can make our statement more precise by saying whether or not you are an agnostic due to the lack of knowledge. As mentioned in post # 5, and in many different threads, atheism and theism deal with the issue of belief (i.e. Do you believe in God?) whereas agnosticism deals with knowledge (i.e. Can you prove whether or not God exists?).

So, basically, you are an Agnostic Atheist if you do not believe in the existence of God (atheism), but also do not claim to be able to prove the non-existence of God (agnosticism).

I call bullshit. I am an unapologetic atheist, particularly in regards to the deities of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In regards to those deities, I am sure enough to have bet my immortal soul (if there was such a thing) against them. How's that for cowardice?

With regards to the question of the existence of any deities, I remain agnostic. I accept the possibility that there could be such a being, far beyond the comprehensibility of humanity. I do not believe it's likely, but in order for me to "know" for certain, my belief must both be justified and true. My belief is justified, yes - but the truth of my belief is untestable, and therefore subject to uncertainty.

That uncertainty in no way undermines my position as an atheist that I believe that there are no deities.

Cowardice isn't part of the equation, and I resent the implication that it is.

Quote:Cowardice isn't part of the equation,

Indeed it isn't,the claim is a rather facile ad hominem.

Quote:and I resent the implication that it is.

By all means resent what ever you like and say so,as long as you don''t expect not to be offended.

Perhaps follow MY example, and remain cucumber calm and completely unaffected.Angel Cloud

Oh, no danger of that. I don't believe anyone has a right to not be offended. I'm just not going to give a free pass to someone that's throwing around accusations of cowardice.

Is someone too much of a coward to admit that the fence is sometimes the quickest position get to the right side once knowledge of which side is right presents itself? Many agnostics lean one way or the other on the god issue. They don't play both sides. They admit to not knowing. That's a rather brave position, in my opinion. How many people do you know that willingly label themselves as ignorant? (Disclaimer: Ignorant here is not meant to be insulting.)
