Recent argument with my stepfather

Recent argument with my stepfather
I've been having some arguments with my stepdad about religion. He makes it very difficult to talk because he only wants to debate me when I dont know much about this sort of thing. He also doesnt understand that HE is the one who has something to prove to me. Think of "god", I say there is not god, and that he never showed himself to anyone. He just comes back with this, "Have you been to the statue of liberty? (No) Well then how do you know thats there?" Any tips for me if the conversation comes up again?

'There is a picture of the Statue of Liberty' would have been a good comeback.

I'm afraid I would need to know more about his style of arguing to be of further assistance.

Not only are there pictures of the statue of liberty, but many people have been there. That is a ridiculous argument. Ask him if he's ever seen a fairy or leprechaun. When he argues that those things are just make-believe figures from stories, remind him that there is just as much proof for fairies as there is for God. Ask him why he is an atheist in regards to the countless other gods. Tell him that you only believe in one less god than him.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to explore the world around you with your eyes that are unencumbered by faith. If you like to read, perhaps we could suggest some books for you. If not, there are lots of good documentaries and debates to watch on the internet. Knowledge is power!

One is an extraordinary claim, the other is not. Even if I never saw a pic of the statue of liberty I wouldn't have a problem believing it exists: Humans do tall buildings and statues, so it not extraordinary to build a statue the size of a building. An OmniBullshit god on the other hand....

Reallly, that is some stupid rethoric ROFLOL

That's the stereotype isn't it? IDK, my stepdad legally adopted me, changed my name, put food on the table, was the coach of my little league team.... The dude stepped up. I was a little pissed when my mother divorced him. Luck of the draw I guess.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Remind him that had he been born in Baghdad he'd be shouting "Allah Ahkbar" five times a day and denouncing xtian scumbags as infidels.

His religious fervor is merely an accident of birth and geography.

Ah but he could probably say not only why god exists but why it must be a christian god.

My Mother married my stepdad when I was 15, so me being an angsty teen, was havin' none of his shit...

He is usually a moron though. So it was justified.
