"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

Actually, Summer, I'm going to surprise the shit out of you and give you that old connection. The first public schools in the United States were established by Puritans to teach Puritan ideals. Boston Latin is one such school. Moving further up the education chain to private schools and you have Harvard University, also established by Puritans to promote Puritan ideals. Today, also one of the most expensive places in the United States to get an education. It's a loose connection, though, philosophy and religion do seem to be the reason people bothered with education to begin with. It just expanded from there.

That being said, this thread did not belong in Christianity and the title is super fucking misleading.

It would be stupid not to say that schools here didn't get started by religion in some way - my sister just finished one of them - but the historical link in that respect is faaaaaaaarrrr too tenuous when contemplating this current "99%" meme.

Sure, it is tenuous, but he was trying to make a point. He just did it with a misleading title and very little in the way of an OP to make the link. I do agree with the thread being moved. It is much more a political thread than a religious one.

PS - you never surprise the shit out of me. I'd be hard pressed to be surprised that you'd find a way to link anything Tongue

That said, I'd have been perfectly willing to leave it if the religion angle had been pumped up, but it was apparently too much of a bother.

'Jews don't hold a monopoly on intelligence'

True, on the contrary, no really intelligent person would remove a baby's foreskin.

There is a reason why Jews do on average, better. Education is serious to them, and quite rightly, then the important thing is to sort out your financial house, and then they have the money to take the time to be more 'spiritual'.

True story.
