No More Anti-Theists
August 27, 2015 at 10:18 am
The title is pretty misleading so stay with me. Everyone that has Anti-Theist for their "Religious Views" should remove it.
I had that as my "Religious Views" until right now when I realized that a theist can be anti-theist. So, when you put that on your profile, you really aren't saying anything about your views on god. It would be pretty confusing if a flood of anti-theist christians came on this forum, because we wouldn't know the difference.

Actually,a christian can't, consistently, be an anti-theist...though a great many appear to be so....except in the case of that one particular god of theirs. Just another amusing tick, imo.

If you believe in that, but do not agree with christianity as a whole, they are a christian anti-theist.

I'd say I'm a Christian Anti-Theist. Fuck, that describes me pretty damn well.
I find religion stupid, and the tool of man. But I believe in Jesus. I just don't believe everything written about him. Maybe 'agnostic christian anti-theist deist' and you've got your description of me.

What exactly does it mean to be "anti-theist?"
Literally, it sounds like you're anti religious people, but I don't think that's what it's supposed to mean lol...
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

But what is it you do believe about Jesus? Not trying to attack, just curious as to what this might mean.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Which is fine, but being against the notion or institution or organized christianity does not necessarily make one an anti-theist. It just makes one a run of the mill christian, against all of those -other- organizations that call themselves christian...as many already are. Anti-theism is an opposition to -theism-...not churches or organization..or christianity, theism. A christian is a -theist-, regardless of whether or not they feel comfortable with churches, or the organization of their religion.
Christian anti-theism is a contradiction in terms. It is a theist anti-theist.
Sure, sure, the term gets used in many ways, in the same way that we've had "christian atheists" float up.
