Isn't the point of anti-lock brakes that you slam them through the floor board and they pump themselves?

That's the point. With anti-lock brakes, you don't need to remember to pump them; the vehicle's computer does that for you.

That means that the object is able to work around the human's flaws.

Yes, and airplanes crash, too. I don't see the point of arguing over an analogy. I prefer not letting the perfect be the enemy of the better.
